Previous -- Next(Right, the new update took me awhile. Posts like this will need a breather between them.)
Ooh, a standoff! Dustan bellows (dramatically) for the ugly mugs to stop all this nonsense. The sergeant, down on his knees, begins shouting . . . words? It really sounds like "Augh (grunt) ugh!"Result: 6, Fail by succeeding!
Whether it's the death of their colleague, the bulging eyes of their leader, or the sudden loud voices, they stop. In the silence, John grabs the legs of the deceased, while Frank tries to sneak by behind him.
And you realize that the sergeant isn't just flailing, but he's jabbing his pointer finger back and forth between the dead body and the still-standing humans nearby. The ugly mugs ready their weapons again. Dustan clearly communicated something; it just seems to have been open to interpretation.. . .
Durenadal, ugly mug patrolmember C,
Frank,
John, ugly mug patrolmember D,
Dustan, ugly mug patrolmember B, ugly mug sergeant.
It's pretty easy handling
Overseer when he's just not in the combat.
Anyway, I rolled for everybody and selected random targets for the ugly mugs, resulting in several pairings:
Durenadal is back to using his regular combat table with an iron pick
Durenadal's attack roll: 2, Fail!
Ugly mug patrolmember D's attack roll: 3, Succeed weakly!
Damage roll (1d4-1): 4-1 = 3!
Durenadal, HP: 7/13
Can Frank escape through a space crowded with flailing weapons?
Frank's evasion roll: 3, Succeed weakly!
That would be enough to get out, but not enough to evade a parting attack from somebody going before him in the combat round, so:
Ugly mug patrolmember C's attack roll: 3, Succeed weakly!
Damage roll (1d4-1): 3-1 = 2!
Frank, HP: 0/15
John is trying to swing a 60 kg corpse that is itself wearing 10 kg of chain mail, so I'll just call that a "combat maneuver" and roll without expectations for damage
John's torso flail roll: 2, Fail!
But that's okay, since once again an ugly mug is distracted by events . . .
The sergeant is actively fighting back, so that means Dustan's going to try to kill him . . .
But with that said, Dustan's going FIRST . . .
I guess I'll give the ugly mug a roll to see how tough he makes it on Dustan
Ugly mug sergeant's freeeeeeedom roll: 1, Fail terribly!
Nevermind, Dustan kills him
Ugly mug sergeant, HP: 0/14
The front line becomes a scene of chaos! Seeing that the lull was nothing, Durenadal heads to the fore and swings on the enemy--but misses. He gets a nasty scrape in response.
Frank darts back through the empty spot left by Durenadal's passing, but the ugly mugs are advancing. After days and days of senseless luck, it all catches up to him. Just like that sickle across his throat.
Frank has been struck down!(Well, couldn't survive
all the beheadings.)
John tries to put his own defeated enemy to use, pitching its corpse at another of the ugly mugs. All this while, the sergeant that Dustan is holding has been fighting against his knife hand, and Dustan decides that this is pretty much stabby time. The sergeant jolts in exactly the wrong direction for survival purposes.
Ugly mug sergeant has been struck down!It occurs to me that throwing a corpse at somebody could be kinda intimidating, so I want to see if all this ugly mug killing happens to have good consequences
Result: 5, Succeed greatly!
Well, then
The corpse thrown by John doesn't hit anyone, but makes a satisfying splat right before them, just as the sergeant's own blood spills to the ground. The ugly mugs stop in their tracks again. They look back and forth between all the dead bodies. They're . . . counting the bodies? If so, the math isn't looking very good for them right now. And their leader, who had exhorted them to action, is dead now.
You might finally, finally have their attention.Frank (Coolrune206), same speech I gave the last dead person: you have died while some possessions are in your lockbox. Do you want to go on the waitlist? If so, do you want your lockbox contents to wait for you? Or do you want the rest of the team to loot your lockbox?
(In other news, I've been meticulously drawing
Overseer (FallacyofUrist) as pacing back and forth in the west. It amuses me. And I should report that I'll
definitely be too busy to update tomorrow.)
