I refuse to let frank escape! He will learn something useful and do something worthwhile with his life!
This is rather ironic, both in game and IRL...

Gotcha.

And I just remembered: you have carcasses still remaining in Overseer (FallacyofUrist)'s inventory and a wheelbarrow.  Standing jellyfish.  Also, that improvised venom whip.  No one's told me you're selling these things, and you should at least turn them into cash before they rot.

Confirmation on that?  I mean, I could understand if Frank (Coolrune206) waited and let that whip rot in his backpack . . .

Frank isn't selling until after he gets out of his predicament.

Yup.  As I said, it's not likely to result in a portable setup, but I'll present more information for both you and Overseer (FallacyofUrist) when I update.

Question: can we buy more wheelbarrows, or do we need to find wood first?

Answer: it's awesome that you asked this immediately before I updated.  You'll see.

Wheelbarrows made of lightweight wood are rare.  There is no source of wood down here.  But remember how the Halfway House has a random assortment of rare equipment?  On occasion, you will see that somebody sold one and then it's available for purchase.

Which reminds me that I neglected to put "superior" equipment in the available stock.  I'll add those.

Previous -- Next

I had enough time this morning, so here's the advancement on those last points.  Let's start with the excitement again.

Sometimes there's no helping people.

With a brief and unexplained nudge from John, Frank begins hobbling his way out of the shops.  Dustan appears distracted.  And that's . . . it!  Frank is off to pursue his dreams of being senseless and irresponsible with money!  Of course, if he had been caught, he would have been "senseless" in a different meaning, but such is life.

Off in a different direction, Overseer spots a new sign of actual organization here: people gathering cavereed from beside rivers and dripwater pools.  This is clearly 1) a resource of some sort, 1a) a way to involve yourself in something that matters to these people, 2) under control of some form of authority, and 2a) an authority you can usurp.  You mean involve yourself in.  At least it's a start . . .

And Durenadal locates the ale-makers!  Apparently it's a whole family here: the Aegir family (which John had heard mentioned before, back in the Halfway House, but no one bothered to ask, so that's that).  They have quite an operation, and there's always room for new exiles to work with their equipment.  Looks like an introduction is in order . . .

I'm waiting on the rest of the team to finish their tasks before I advance the Overseer (FallacyofUrist) and Durenadal (HugeNerdAndProudOfIt) stories much further.  No, there is no portable equipment in this ale setup.  Now, back to John (ziizo)

Spoiler: Helpfulness check (click to show/hide)

John gets a few people standing around staring at the parchment.  It looks like their interest levels are mixed, and most of them wander off, but you glean some answers.

"Yeah, we're not the only ones living down here, you know." says an older woman.  "Them ugly mugs think they own the place.  We run salt mines between here and the Halfway House, and I heard word from the family that the nasties just recently waylaid a shipment.  Couple of wheelbarrows lost.  'Course, rock salt doesn't shine like in that picture."

You also get more shopping done.  It's still some time before Dustan notices that his ward is missing.

Spoiler: An update for John (click to show/hide)

Gradually sweeping up all the loose ends before advancing the day/plot.  I've also added items with higher-quality among the basic ones in the shop stock.  They're absurdly expensive, but whatever.

Any more shopping?  Talking?  Plotting?  Remember that you can shop before or after earning some cash by doing local work for the rest of the day, and that you can store valuable and/or unneeded things from your inventory in case of space demands or your untimely death.

Also, get frank back with me and heal some peoples!

Mmmm... Frank sells EVERYTHING on the list of saleable items except the extra food. You never know when you'll need it. Then, he finds a tavern and waits for the gambling crowd to show up.

refuse to be distracted. I can deal with that in the morning.

Just in case, Dustan: if you can't find Frank after some time (like spending all morning on the search), do you want to give up and go help people as a doctor?  You know, limit the losses.

Similar question to ziizo: once all this is resolved, do you want to find work for the remainder of the day?  Like I said, I can assign stuff to you.

If that's handled, I'll have enough info to write up the remainder of your experiences in-town.  It'll take time, but I hope you find it fun.

try to get work for the day at the brewery, and see if I could purchase from anywhere a tube bent at a ~75 degree angle about 3 inches from one end, and a ~115 degree angle at the other, a sauce-pan, something to keep the pan elevated above the fire, and see if I can get a water-vapor tight lid with a hole that I could attach one end of the tube to. Thats about all I would need. put it all together, attach a water skin to the other end of the tube, and bob's your uncle. that's about what I meant when I send portable still. I recognize that several of these things may be specialty parts, namely the tube and lid, but I am willing to pay a premium for a rush job.
