The welcome is not the most welcoming.  Durenadal is pretty well outvoted as the only one willing to be helpful, pointing out the way to town.  Overseer seems anxious (but not too hopeful) that the new exiles include some non-psychopaths, but Dustan and John start breezing right by the newcomers, especially once John (by discussion with Ragnarok) realizes that this is the hunting grounds of that hungry wall tiger.

(The GM ponders: Do wall tigers level up?)

Alyssa, thinking like a hunter who'd rather not become the hunted, seems ready to follow.  But Sir Looty and Dwain have to settle their differences first.  Mostly over loot.

Dwain has set down the new backpack to inspect its contents when Looty spots the war hammer buried within.  Dwain, who had been pondering the object's usefulness, grabs it only to find that it has a Looty attached to the far end.  This leads to a complicated moment.

With his spare hand, Dwain tentatively extends a splitter wand as a peace offering and/or trade.  Looty "boops" him on the nose, then "boops" the splitter wand on the nose.  The wand quietly does nothing in response.  This leads to an awkward moment.

Meanwhile, the caves around are quiet.  Does the wall tiger watch?  Who knows?

To reiterate: each of you has an iron pick already.  (Presumably you put them on the ground during this exchange, along with lanterns, which you also have.)  I, uh, hope you achieve some sort of peace with each other.

And it looks like most players want to move to the next area.  When posting responses, if I could get confirmation from Sir Looty (TankKit), Dwain (Starver), and Ragnarok (PaPaj) that you'll be following when the situation resolves, then we can try to depart.

In response to the probably secret roll (right?) look sideways, in horror, at the wall to the west.

"Argh! Is that the Wall Tiger?!?"

"WHAT!? WHERE!?"
In response to Dwain's outburst Sir Looty starts swinging the hammer around wildly with his eyes closed... probably with Dwain still attached to the other end of it if Dwain manages to continue holding it.

"oh for the love of god..."
stab sir looty if he does start swinging around successfully. Aim for an eye or the throat so that it kills him quickly.
(Please make it so other creatures can level up. That's be awesome. And terrifying.)

I figure at some point, you're just gonna run outta fucks to give and just off yourself whenever you get hurt at all. It's not like there's any downsides to it. Hangover? Suicide will fix that. Stubbed your toe? Suicide. Headache? Suicide. Papercut? Suicide.

Head to the town, leaving the others behind if necessary.

(If it's bad when the GM smiles, then you people like living dangerously.  By which I mean that I'm laughing over here and am very amused.)

In response to Dwain's outburst Sir Looty starts swinging the hammer around wildly with his eyes closed... probably with Dwain still attached to the other end of it if Dwain manages to continue holding it.

Eyes closed, huh?  Interesting, uh, defensive strategy.  Might work in Call of Cthulhu.

But hey!  If you succeed in defending yourself from the terrifying monsters you don't actually see!  Interested in following the group out of this hole?

(Please make it so other creatures can level up. That's be awesome. And terrifying.)

(Currently, the ugly mugs follow a similar system to the players, so there's them.  And I'd been thinking of creating bigger versions of some monsters, like "elder" versions, just in case the existing ones didn't kill you quickly enough.  So far I think the balance is working out well, but who knows what it'll take down the road . . . )

Now, unless somebody wants to intervene with these two, I'll probably post an update tomorrow to (try to) resolve their little dispute.  You know.  Before the hulking predators show up.

Let's see if anything interesting happens, shall we?

Are you people trying to help me clear the waitlist, or . . . ?

Where's a wall tiger when you need one?  If nowhere else, in the mind of the imaginative.  Dwain feigns panic at spying the beast in the distance, then tries to collect all his belongings.

Sir Looty's response, of course, is to lunge to the attack.

Seeing that he will not be able to maintain safe control of the war hammer at this time, Dwain shoves Looty off-balance as well as he is able.  Looty flails away unperturbed.  Why?  Because his eyes are closed anyway.

Whack!  Looty careens into Ragnarok, dealing a hammer blow to the ribcage, before managing a backhand that impacts his own jaw.

At this, Dustan has had enough.  The team doctor approaches, his workstone "scalpel" in hand, to excise from the exiles the medical metaphor of your choice.  With Looty not looking at a thing, it is the work of a moment to jab up under the orbit of his right eye.

. . . And, as he is a doctor, Dustan could just as easily explain how sometimes you survive gaping head injuries.  The solid shock, at least, compels Looty to loose his grip on the hammer.  Dwain is quick to collect his lost item, and most of the group seems intent on just leaving before real wall tigers arrive to do anything worse.

. . . Seriously.  How many player fatalities do you want to see on this map?

What am I to do with you people?

I just hope it involves moving to the next area sometime soon . . . we've got a game to play . . .

(Pfft.  Well, at least this time it might not be Dustan getting the player kill.)

At this point I will presume that the main horde of (less-insane) characters is moving off of the map unless you tell me otherwise.  The only questions are how many people are staying behind to partake in the brawl or just leaving these two to duke it out.

And, I mean, Sir Looty (TankKit) might want to run instead of fight, but I await your thoughts.  Ragnarok . . . oops, I mean Ragnarek (PaPaj) is slightly injured, so you might stand a sporting chance!

My intentions always were to just leave, without being reproached for causing harm (myself) and ideally not suffering any. The friendliest invitation so far encountered is that to head towards an alleged town, and at least in a town I might better discover what the caverns have in store for me.

But I see I have to brush past my friend with the inverted concept of property, and a couple of individuals seemingly intent upon his demise, one unknown to me, the other practically so. I also don't know the practices regarding bodies, down here, and for all I know that fifth wheelbarrow will need hauling (I have likely tended a seminary garden, or somesuch, at some point, and that's another way to make myself useful until I find a different purpose).

If I'm not to divest myself of all responsibility, the options are to skirt round the fray, closer to the past signs of battle, or duck through the developing melee. I'd also prefer not to have too many berserkers playing with weapons directly behind me, and it would be nice not to wander round the next corner entirely alone.

Wary of anyone striking out in my direction, nudge or pull Looty, perhaps by any unflailing elbow, to encourage them forward. "Are we staying to meat the Tigers," I stage-whisper, "or are you perhaps going this way?"

See if I can practically pull my meatshield misguided companion through without further injury, but don't force the issue if anyone physically objects. I'm sure I can perform some semblance of the basic rites of healing, or otherwise, but I might be no position to do so if I'm ambushed from in front or behind. Get to the corner, and exit, with or without company, keeping an eye out for further surprises.
