Previous -- Next(Not much I can say to that . . . )
Finally alone (?), the group of three remains a moment to try out the soulshine lantern which Frank so kindly provided. Always thinking for the future, that fellow.
John places the lantern near the recently dead. You see a roiling cloud at its heart! When struck with a spark, it flares with teal light!Though the sergeant had "leveled-up," it is true, you can only steal from your own species. Thus: Frank's 5 earned HP.
How this works is in two parts. First I roll for the points. Every point of level-up HP has half a chance of being drained away by the lantern.
Soulshine results: 0, 1, 1, 1, 0 = 3 HP!
So that's 3 out of the 5 from Frank . Now I roll down all the people present until I exhaust the points. Every person has half a chance to claim one. I roll the whole of you simultaneously in a "round," and, if points are still left over, I roll more rounds until done.
Dustan's results: 1 = +1 to current and maximum HP!
John's results: 1 = +1 to current and maximum HP!
Durenadal's results: 1 = +1 to current and maximum HP!
. . . Could have gotten some zeroes in there and had to keep rolling, but it came out even this time.
Strange ethereal forces are drawn from Frank's body, like fuel powering a flame. The entire lantern seems to be consumed and transformed into light. As you share in its glow, you feel stronger than ever. That is, Dustan, John, and Durenadal all do. Overseer was not invited. Overseer is still in disbelief.
Anyway!
The show's over and the lantern's gone. Now fortified, Dustan and Durenadal get to work on loot and a status report.
That sergeant's workstone chain mail is old and damaged, but Dustan tries it on. . . . Oof! You're overburdened! Well, this is a bit much now, but you walk back over to the ugly mug campsite and take stock. The wheelbarrows (marked with SALT, which John should recognize) are filled to the brim with slabs of rock salt, and dried cavereed is crammed around it all, probably for protection against damp. One of them is missing a slab, which the ugly mugs must have been using in their salting. Speaking of which, you observe two stacks of bug bat bird carcasses: one pile being salted, one set aside.

Dustan (Dustan Hache): you are 5 kg over your max. That's the problem with chain mail, really, that you can't wear it AND be a pack mule, but you'll be pleased to know that being made of workstone means that this damaged stuff still gives you some protection.
Anyway, see your inventory above and consider tossing stuff into your wheelbarrow or dumping out water. (If you don't, you can still walk around, but will suffer overexertion damage in combat.)
