Overseer sells the glow stone and sees about buying some food and water.

Tryin' to be helpful: you've got oodles of food thanks to Dustan's planning skills.  (Also water.)  So the question is if you want a weapon or something from the list.  If you make the sale you're proposing, you could get an iron sword like others on the team have.

I would be willing to hand off my spare money to anyone making a purchase of supplies or basic weaponry/armor.

This is helpful!  With Dustan's offer, Overseer's total cash on hand becomes 75 opal.  Then you could spend all of it and join the cool kids in the workstone knife club!

(By which I mean a club devoted to knives.  Not a blunt instrument.  With knives.  Somehow.)

You'll certainly fit in.

Okay, I'll be back tomorrow!  I can't make Overseer's purchases for him, but I definitely would recommend something other than food.  If you don't want weapons, you were already given one defensive item (healing), and you could always purchase more.

Now, I could comply with Overseer (FallacyofUrist)'s request to turn that moderate-to-large sum of cash into food.  Food is a more compact way to carry your "valuables."  It's just that if it turns out to get little use (because Dustan already loaded up on food), then you'd lose lots of the value.

If I don't get a reply/revision, I'll proceed with the food request so we can keep the adventure moving.  Or maybe I should presume Overseer would buy only enough food so that the remaining opal will fit in his lockbox?  Argh, GM trying to be psychic . . .

Hmm.  I do have an update prepared, so I'm left figuring out what would make most sense.  Run with a temporary purchase plan (getting excessive food) just to keep the game moving, and give Overseer the opportunity to revise history if he seeks/approves changes?

Psst: all players start with a helmet.  So I'll just go for the heaps of food, then.

And I'll be back tomorrow!

Previous -- Next

With that handled, I have updated everyone's inventory in the first post.  This includes filling water kegs as much as possible.  Dustan (Dustan Hache) and John (ziizo): you are both setting out for adventure at maximum weight.

Anyway, I sincerely hope you found Rock Bottom interesting: I loaded it with (probably) more content than I could dish out in a forum game format, and that meant a lot of time typing.

Before the end of your first visit to Rock Bottom, you make sure to fit in other necessary activities.  Shopping, for one.  Durenadal purchases the distillery setup from the Aegir family, trying to keep things civil.  (Really, they're the ones acting all weird here.)

John inquires about the salt mines.  The answer is unhelpful: "The salt mines we use are rarely further out than the Halfway House."  Upon further prodding, apparently you just "head to the mines" and hopefully you get there?  This ambiguity is why sometimes shipments can get lost: routes become unclear and then the ugly mugs (or other hazards) swoop in.

You get an opportunity to share this . . . knowledge (?) . . . because you all regroup in the morning.  You have to: armed individuals knock on doors and walls, rounding up all non-residents to kick them out until such time as you have more resources to sell.

The team is brought with the rest of the crowd to where you first arrived.  So there's Frank, somehow even more bloodstained than last you saw.  And hey!  There's Sir Lootington way off ahead, near the edge of town!  What in the world has he been doing?

Together again!

When you catch up with Sir Lootington, you see that he's, uh, been detained by yet another group of guards, and they have some civilian standing behind them.  They halt you.  "There's a prospector who wants to talk to you." a guard says.

She walks to the front and glowers at the group, specifically Sir Lootington, Durenadal, and Overseer.  "Lost your friend, did you?"  She asks.  "Lost my pack too, eh?"

She jabs a finger in Overseer's chest.  "I believe you owe me a wheelbarrow!"

Thank you, Helmacon.  Your impact has been felt far beyond your death.

Meanwhile, I have wrapped up this great big civilization experience by adding everything to the opening posts:

A new section with all known items.

Updated minerals and creatures.

All progress in terms of adventures completed and carvings found.

And some short notes about the new civilization rules.

"Sorry. All debts died with our friend. We can not be held accountable for his follies, but we apologize.

Also, Sir Lootington, where have YOU been?
"

Frank's tone sharpens when speaking to Sir Lootington, smiling in a menacing way.

"Wait, he died? When did that happen?"

He turns around to face the others adventurers. "Did this happen while I was crafting stuff or after I ran off? Or was I just not paying attention when it happened? I guess it does explain his absence though. Huh, maybe I should pay more attention to things like that in the future..."

He turns back to Overseer and the angry person. "Sooo, does he have to hand over his wheelbarrow now, or at another time?"

He turns back to the others. "You guys do still have your wheelbarrows right? Because if you don't I have a feeling we're in trouble. Dunno why, just a wierd feeling. Probably nothing, but you can never be too carefull!"

"Sorry. All debts died with our friend. We can not be held accountable for his follies, but we apologize.
Also, Sir Lootington, where have YOU been?
"
Frank's tone sharpens when speaking to Sir Lootington, smiling in a menacing way.
He turns to Frank. "Hi Frank, how you doing? So, since I pranked you does that mean we're friends now? Ya' know, some people say I'm really bad at this whole friendship thing, but I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. They're probably just jealous of my friendship skills. I mean, all the kids at school used to prank me, one of the first pranks they ever did was smashing my head into a big metal pipe thingy, and they were laughing while they were doing it and laughter usually means you are friends with someone I think maybe probabaly yes that is probably it so I decided to prank them alot and then we all become friends but for some reasontheyallleftmeIhavenoideawhysomesayIamtooenergeticbutthatisprobabalyincorrectso-" At this point, he is speaking so fast it is litterally impossible to understand him. Someone might want to try and slow down his speech.

Frank looks at Sir Lootington with growing and visible disbelief.

"Wha... stop to breathe, damnit! I can't kill you if you asphyxiate yourself!"

He grabs Sir Lootington's shirt collar and shakes him a little.

At being shaked around a bit Sir Lootington stops for a bit, before taking what is probabaly the biggest breath someone can take, before releasing it something that can barely even be called a sentence.

"So yeah as I was saying I was friends with a bunch of people who pranked me because I think that's how friendship works and then one day when I knocked one of them out they all suddenly left for some reason and I never saw them again and then I got sent to a really comfortable place where they had lots of nice food and a nice lady talked to me and asked me if I had any problems and I said no I don't have problems because I have loads of friends who I get to prank every day and then after a while she kept talking about how brain damage is bad and stuff although I don't know why she did that because it has nothing to do with my friend and how I prank them lots which for some reason loads of people have problems with me pranking my friends even though I know that is how friendship works atleast I think so yeah I am pretty sure that is how it works and then I went to a bunch of different schools and for some reason I always only ended up staying at for a few weeks before I got kicked out because everyone was jealous of my friendship skills oh yeah and my parents also did alot of traveling to different places where there were different schools and sent me to multiple schools in each place and I also don't understand what is so good about school except from friendship because I am pretty sure that I was friendship and after a while everyone started to get smaller for some reason and my parents decided to leave to get in boxes I don't know why I don't think it makes much sense to spend alot of time in boxes but then I was alone for a while and I decided to get a job as a blacksmith and was very good at it so eventually I got my own blacksmith and things kept getting smaller and lots of people bought and bunch of different weapons yes I do know what weapons and death are by the way I am not stupid I know weapons are things that send people to the magical sky aliens in the sky and that death is when you are spending time with the sky aliens in the sky and that apparantly it has lots of fire and death and destructing and great magical alien people called gods who live in a place called Hell which is apparantly in the sky even though it has massive caverns and loads of different stuff but yeah the magical sky alien people called gods do a bunch of stuff do the world like making people kill loads of other people so that they get to live in Hell and be very happy oh yeah and they also solve world hunger by making it so you can only eat crumbs sometimes."

He stops before taking another big gasp of breath.

"So yeah anyway never mind all that stuff are we friends now I hope we are friends now I mean I know we probably are because I pranked you and pranking people means you maked friends with them apparantly atleast I think so yeah I am pretty sure I am correct anyway you haven't told me what happened to that one guy who died I forgot his name what was it again Hamcelak oh well never mind that I also want to know about what sorts of adventures you had while you were gone also actually could you please tell me whether or not I am correct about friendship and stuff also why am I feeling so lightheaded right now oh well nevermind it's probabaly nothing also does anyone else have this strange feeling in the back of their head that something's trying to invade their mind and fill it with a bunch of random memories oh well probabaly also nothing oh hey looks it's you other guys when did you get how did I not see you oh well it doesn't matter I would the most important thing here is-" "GAA-" "Ok what was that strange noise it was probabaly nothing anyway as I was saying the next most important thing here is probabaly going on adventures again and stuff also I don't want to go to the magical aliens in the sky just yet because apparantly some people fear them I don't know why hey hang on a second where did that memory of me cutting my hands off come from I never did that eh it's probabaly nothing anyway as I was saying I am curious to where we are going next are we going anywhere important OOOOOH are we going on a field trip wait what's a field trip I don't know what a field trip is that word just randomly popped into my head ok then this is weird anyway I think that strange feeling I had of something in the back of my mind has now turned to a feeling of something whimpering in the back of my mind oh well it's probabaly nothing so anyway where are we going now?"
