((Well, I'll basicaly punch Frank in the face.).. Also, I imagine my category is quite obvious. Still, which one would you say I am in?)

(The very idea that you folks need to be categorized by my melodramatic exclamation is itself a sign of chaos overriding all order and sense.  But TankKit, again, it's a matter of all three, as you were one of the people demonstrating said qualities right when I posted that.  If GM's didn't go into this expecting characters to replace exploration with shouting/running after loot; bypass a fight to craft a free weapon; and attempt to rewrite a choreographed danger-gas scene by putting themself in danger and INCREASING the danger to another player; it would drive some GM's crazy.  Fortunately, I've been in the Roll to Dodge forum before.)

(Also, we've clearly got more than one pattern of parentheses going on here.  Is there a forum standard for gamer's parentheses?)

Anyway, I'll be a bit busy today, but if Overseer (FallacyOfUrist) shows up then I can try to finish the update.

((I think one parentheses ( ) is for in-game questions to the GM, or just in-game out of character discussion, while double parentheses (( )) is totally-removed-from-the-game-OOC. Not sure, however.))

( . . . And I've got my font for update text, too, along with players sometimes using icon color for actions.  All sorts of patterns.  So long as everyone can grasp what occurs.)

Anyway, I'm back and ready.  When FallacyOfUrist tells me just how far away he'll be from any potential explosion, I'll be good to update.

Hmm.  Don't wanna skip FallacyofUrist: he might wish to do something like dissuade Dustan from this perilous course.

Or just run.

Previous -- Next

We are ready to go!

Dustan, hearing the reactions down below, breaks a chunk of the glowstone he'd been using for campfires . . . and starts a fire.  It takes a bit to catch alight, and meanwhile the others react in wholly logical manners.

Spoiler: Slappyfight (click to show/hide)

Frank hangs back a moment--you know, in the presumed blast zone--to administer a punitive wrist-slap to Sir Lootington for attempted murder/theft.  He doesn't get very far, as his aggressive motion warns Lootington off: the latter immediately twitches into a flurry of futile punches that miss Frank's face by an arm's length.  In the end, Lootington is the first to dash away into the distance, right after Durenadal, who was already fleeing the area for some reason.

And Dustan pitches the magenta-burning rock down the slope.

Spoiler: Why am I rolling? (click to show/hide)

THOOOOOOM.  It's like a cannon; if anything had been down that slope, it would have been propelled out with enough force to kill.  As it is you nearly incinerate your wheelbarrows!  Luckily, the fire stops before it reaches anything important.  And you covered your ears first.

Meanwhile, in the distance, the fleeing Durenadal spots a deep fissure in the rock near an untouched deposit of coal.  John finds another right next to the glowstone mining.  Overseer has also taken cover along the southern route, and sees a few tiny rock shards rain down in the area weakened by mining, but thankfully there's no catastrophe.  And that seems to be all.

I drew in the explosion just for fun.  It dissipates before your next action.

Since you can see the exits, let me note: if you want to collect that bulky hematite before leaving, you have barely enough space.  Frank and Durenadal can each grab a 10 kg unit of hematite.  Dustan and Durenadal could each lend one piece of glowstone to Overseer, then each be able to carry one (or a second) unit.  Options.

Frank rests a minute, and then goes along with whatever the group decides.

(Question:why was my choice of rolls for intentionally causing a explosion limited to failure? Shouldn't it be "success" and "overshoot"?)

(Question:why was my choice of rolls for intentionally causing a explosion limited to failure? Shouldn't it be "success" and "overshoot"?)

For standardization.  I created results tables for surviving a brief jaunt in explosive gas: these tables have no overshoot, and their failure chances are better or worse depending on your source of fire.

You set a large fire and waited for it to blast.  So, by my tables, it would be like players missing the point of all these warning signs and starting a campfire for the night.  "Does the player succeed in getting through this without an explosion?"  "Heck no."

Failure = boom.

So, whaddaya wanna do next?

check the area where the gas was out now. Maybe the blast knocked something loose? Also, keep a eye on my lantern and be ready to book it if it starts to flare up.

I'll be back tomorrow!  If anyone has any inventory-related concerns, I have everything updated in the first post.

P.S.: Dustan, on the explosion topic, I could of course swap the words "Fail" and "Fail terribly" with "Succeed" and "Succeed greatly."  I could do that if it sounds too stupid otherwise.  By blowing things up, you found an edge case in all my plans, which I suppose is a good metaphor for something-or-other.
