I have two projects in mind, one simple, one hard.

I take one of the tentacles and and a nice hand sized stone. I use one of my leather strips as a lashing to secure tentacle to the stone, creating a leather handle to my jellyfish whip. Jellyfish rot rather quickly, so I doubt it will last more than a few days, but until then I've got a badass venom whip! (A jellyfish sting is an autonomous reaction based on pressure, and it persists indefinitely after death. (until rot))

The other idea is a bit harder. It needs salt and alcohol.

When we eat tonight, I make soup out of a healthstone and some water. (I can use my helmet as a bowl) Then, I let the water evaporate overnight, collecting the salty residue in the morning. The alcohol is a bit harder though, and might require a trip back to the halfway house.

I can do the butchering. Maybe do it better because I know how to work with flesh, being a doctor (after all, half the job is knowing how it happened, the other half being treating it.)
Do butchering if given a knife, otherwise mine glowstone with the loaned pick.
Edit: maybe you could try using ether cola for your leather-making? Dunno how well it would work, but it might be worth a shot.
Edit 2: I have premade rations. Don't waste healthstone while we have them.

From how I interpret it, Helmacon is not actually intending to eat the "healthstone soup."  Correct?  Just do something really whacked-out with a dissolved residue in the morning?  As the one who invented the nigh-magical stuff, I need to be clear on your plan so I can point out where it goes so, so wrong.

Whether I understand you or not, I should note that the healthstone itself is not salty, and you can't expect salty residue just from leaving slightly-used water in a bowl.

Also, the Halfway House advised to find alcohol at "Rock Bottom," to which you are apparently heading by default.

Lastly, we have a character whose background is in brewing, and another incoming who wanted to be an alchemist, so I'll leave the really interesting chemical madness up to the future and just focus on your venom-whip for now, okay?  It sounds like Dustan would want to stop you personally if you tried wasting salable stones, and the last duel we had didn't end well.

After a day or two, I start doing rolls to see if meat rots into non-usability, so if the dice say your tentacle plan works in the first place we'll just run with it!

Well, then I suppose ambiguity in Helmacon's intent means I'd best hold off on the "soup," now for more than one reason.  I'll proceed with the more weaponizable of his plans for the update--appropriate for an assassin, after all.

Previous -- Next

Mining!  The alleged reason you're down here!  One group works in the southwest and another in the northeast.  The remainder stays with the wheelbarrows and gets to work, preparing food for the night out of standing jellyfish . . . and preparing an exotic weapon.  You have to go through three of your kills to get enough meat for all purposes, but you preserve everything else salable, of course.  Glowstone provides a comforting fire at night and Frank's skillet gets a workout.  Dustan and John ration out water from their kegs to lighten the load.  Time passes . . .

Spoiler: Camping overnight (click to show/hide)

Day 5, afternoon

First thing in the new day, Helmacon finishes up the craft and tries out his new "venom whip."  Overseer looks on proudly.

Spoiler: Izzat so? (click to show/hide)

Helmacon puts up a tough face despite the innumerable stings he delivered to himself.  He had to go through the rest of his spare leather in the attempt, but now he has a safe handle on one of the standing jellyfish's own stinging tentacles.  Maybe, just maybe, it will hurt the enemy more than it hurts him!

As the morning turns to afternoon, you hear a "boom" or two from somewhere far away.  Sounds like more people are at work.  Meanwhile there's mild-to-moderate return on mining the glowstone here, while presumed-workstone comes out of the striped rock in great lumps.  And whoa, breakthrough!  No, nevermind, it's just a small pocket in the wall behind the northeast deposit.  But there's more to mine in there.

Wait a minute.  At the edge of lantern-light in the north: there's a shape on the ground.  It might be one of those scaled turkey things, but it's been broken and mangled.  How long has it been there?

Sir Lootington, I placed your 2x 4 kg glowstone straight into your backpack because I couldn't see any other way you'd want it.  Everyone else can count the rocks on the map and tell me what to do.  The presumed-workstone pieces are 6 kg each.

Helmacon, I'll assume that you carry your grisly creation out at arm's length at all times, so tell me whenever you want to set it down and use your mining pick (which obviously you've gotten back from Dustan).  Your hands are really full.

All inventories and HP have been updated, including the reduced wheelbarrow contents.  I don't have a real measure for liquid and such removed from butchered animals, but don't question the numbers.  That would be questioning the GM.

Frank moves to investigate the North, carefully stepping over the carcass. He keeps his sling ready.

((For some reason I was imagining the healthstone as essentially a compact salt/protein bar. My plan was to dissolve it in water, scoop out the protein part to eat (cause it wouldn't dissolve) and let the aqueous portion evaporate overnight leaving the salt at the bottom. Seeing as that is not at all what the healthstone is, my plan is kinda defunct.))

I extinguish my lantern, and store it in my pack. Then, I load a stone and advance alongside Frank* with my whip in one hand and my sling in the other.

*that is to say, slightly behind frank.

((note to self: Get some leather gloves, so I can handle my whip.))

Try to sharpen one of the sharper rocks into a sword shape using the other sharp rocks, if there is no rock long enough then make a rock dagger. Ignore my friends possibly going to their doom.

Sling-users: I presume ya'll have loaded your slings for bear, just as in other recent times.

Do you mean to use the fancy-shmancy glowstone or all the spare bits of shale lying around?
