Ahh, purpose.

I don't want to see the group split up, so I may provide gentle nudging depending on what the other exiles have to say at this point.

If we still don't get Louis (dustywayfarer)'s input, I'll keep having him follow the group.  I'll plan to retire him just as I did another character awhile back.

Load the corpses, get a move on in what I hope is the direction to halfway house.

Load the corpses

I did the math.  The team has exactly enough carrying capacity to add 80 kg of weight (two 40 kg carcasses) if everyone agrees to take some items from the clutter-filled wheelbarrow so as to free up space.

Now, I don't want to waste time on details.  I can just assume it happens.  But it does require Tohil (randomgenericusername) and Gary (Coolrune206) to carry weight even though they want to rush off, and for Bob (magmaholic) to agree likewise despite being focused on carving a mug.

If a single one of those doesn't happen, then you'll just bring one carcass, not two.  Which is also fine; no need to spend a ton of effort getting a consensus (and interfering with your roleplaying).  But I needed to post and give people a chance to react before running with it.

As part of my doing what I'm doing, I shall take my own personal cue from those I'm keeping watch over. It seems only fair.

I don't think anyone of the three would stop doing what they are doing and carry stuff since both Tohil and Gary are too focused on running and Bob is Bob.

Immortality like that would be even more game breaking than four Aaron's in one place.
You're both so obviously scum that this is a surprisingly difficult decision.

Yeah, I'll just go ahead with the single-carcass plan.  I'm doing a bunch of recordkeeping here (not to mention handling real-life matters and, you know, sometimes watching the Olympics), but I should be able to post soon.  Back tomorrow!

Previous -- Next

Now to make things happen.

Tohil and Gary are off like a shot, thrilled to bring the light of judgment into the depths!  Or something.  It's not actually clear how that works.

Still behind, John, Alyssa, Dustan, and Louis get themselves a little more organized and follow shortly with the wheelbarrows--including the standing jellyfish which John had gotten a head start in butchering.

Bob is fixated on this mug thing, though.  Dwain watches the other exiles vanish down the depths of the distant tunnel, until soon the only sounds are the frantic chiseling noises of a mason at work.  He seems . . . in a trance.  In time, Dwain takes him by the elbow--making sure not to interrupt the motions of crafting--and gently guides him down the tunnel as well.

Thus do you begin the journey.

Spoiler: Crafting on the way (click to show/hide)

Those at the head of the line come to wonder if perhaps more glory and death could have been found elsewhere.  Those at the back shed chunk after flake after tidbit of orange rock, until at long last Bob wrests a pleasing mug-shape out of the recalcitrant whims of fate.  Splendid!  Now you may drink your beverages in style.  Where are you again?

Day 16, Afternoon

Light and voices come from ahead!

One after another, you come to a well-lit area that is once again open to the air above.  In the middle is a building made of sheets of rock, busy with people working or resting.  Another pool of dripwater nearby feeds clumps of reeds, and apparently these have been used to make thatching for the roof and material for beds.  Your exile experience looks not to be a lonely one by any means!

When Dustan, John, and Alyssa arrive, you recognize this as the Halfway House, the one civilized stopping point on the way to Rock Bottom.  Thankfully your road took you here despite earlier tunnel diversions.  And once again, Etrigan, the bearded man who's greeted you each time you've arrived, comes up with a smile.

"Welcome back!" he says.  He takes note of your mixed hunting and mining returns.  "I see you've been hard at work out in the mines.  Well, bring it up to the tables; returning customers like you get the regular rate of 80% what you'd be paid if you hauled it all the way to Rock Bottom.  It's good that way; saves you space."

"Naw, wait," someone interrupts him.  "All those people; they've never sold here before."

"Alright, alright, MORE new people."  He gives a pained expression.  "We trade for 100% value just this once.  More."

Bob and Dwain will arrive next turn.  I presume I'll post lists of goods and stuff at that time.  Anybody have any conversation or other tasks besides trade?  A number of you were/are doing things I found interesting, and I don't just mean crafting a gory skull cap.  And if Louis (dustywayfarer) doesn't reappear, he will retire here in the Halfway House.

"no worries. do 80% for me, I'm only selling and buying with the stuff in my pack."
sell the dagger, the damaged tunic and cultist hood. Buy food with the earnings and refill waterskins from the nearby water source.

I was going to say that I'm not here yet. Obviously me and Bob, above, are in the commemorative mug industry (just the one, the plebs haven't woken up to the retail explosion yet, and we don't want to flood the market before it has been estanlished!) so I'm sure the residents will be pleasantly surprised by the craftsman (eventually) in their midst...

But when I do guide Bob in, he'll surely have some of the other stuff redistributed from the last "stuff it all in all the packs rearrangement" and I can slip him my redistributed stuff, then take a look at if there's anything besides mere portable wealth/currency I might request back. (Awaiting that list.)

no worries. do 80% for me

Up to you if you wanna do math.  Tricky enough keeping inventory straight; I liked the idea that they'd feel obliged to treat everyone at 100% because of the newcomers.

Get extra hp from halfway house discovery.

Ha ha, sucker, too late!  But you'll totally mooch level-up HP when the team finishes their current adventure, even though you did nothing to help them.  "Look, heroic deeds were done, and we were nearby."

Now I'm just waiting to see if anyone has anything special I gotta do other than toss out the item lists.
