I love how I can count on you people to be reasonable.  "Eh, why be psychic and run off to get myself eaten?  I'll just hang out until my gaming buddy across the table starts bleeding loudly enough to be noticeable."

And I believe that's everybody liable to do anything this turn.  Technically there's still Gary (Coolrune206) and Louis (dustywayfarer), but their plans are fairly obvious.  Back tomorrow!
I stopped trying to help people when they thought they could heal themselves better than  the trained doctor less than five feet away. You know, stuff that could benefit from a semi-sensible, yet only slightly murderous mind.

Previous -- Next

Seeing one little mention in recent posts, I thought I should note: I presume the coal fire has not actually been lit.  No one said so, and I figured I'd better not expend player resources until I knew for sure you were done with the scene.

Also, yeah, Alyssa (Rautherdir), it would have made a lot more sense for me to leave your lantern in the backpack you were carrying.  We'll just assume it went that way.  Will you swap back to your normal inventory now?

Blissfully unaware of nearby events, the majority of the group keeps to task.  A significant percentage involves people napping.

Among these, Tohil sets his mind to calm meditation as he settles down.  He is mildly interrupted by mining pick noises as Bob, unable to get a decently-sized rock out of casual debris, begins hacking at the wall.  Dude, can you like . . . move to a farther wall or something?

Gary, more in the distance, is audible but not nearly as obstructive.  He'll at least serve as an early-warning system if something menacing approaches.  Speaking of which . . .

Dwain steps back.  The tentacles of the standing jellyfish swing in the air, but you are out of reach.  It doesn't so much charge you as take a step down the tunnel.  The other one jostles in place, like it's flexing its joints or something, but doesn't move an inch.

It occurs to you that these things have no eyes.

. . . Wow, that was fast.  Easy to write up when most people aren't doing anything!

Tohil moves farther away from Bob, close to where Alyssa is. Attempt to meditate again and ignore the noises.

And I'll move back, further from the Standing Jellyfish, back round the corner if necessary. Is it following me? Sound? (Toss a rock to the side, observe.) Smell? (Nothing I can do about that.) Or is it just heading for that lump carrion?

As I'm not rushing (unless it appears I have to), I'll make sure I'm not missing the danger signs of any similar 'bony poles' on my path out of there. Or anything else. Eventually, I'm getting bored of this, disconnecting and heading back to 'camp'. (Not enticing that thing there, but it'd be good to see whether there's a risk of that, and keep an eye out whilst waiting for the team to assemble again.)

Reflect on how I could better improve my medical treatments, using knowledge of the various injuries, monsters, and materials I have encountered.

We could try sacrificing Bob to the standing jellyfish to appease the gods.

Yeah, this is pretty much The Dwain Show right now.  I could use an answer from Alyssa (Rautherdir), but other than that I should be able to update tomorrow.  And then, one way or another, everything will become more all-encompassing.

(Noting that Dwain's only doing little things whilst others are doing their own things. I'm sure once everyone else is gathered on, and I'm sure that I'm no longer being stalked by mobile beanstalks, I'll be able to return properly to camp, point out the direction that might be best keeping half a dozing eye on, and let us then properly get some rest.)

Previous -- Next

Okay, let's get this handled, shall we?

The quiet drama continues to the north of the main body of exiles.  Faced with the bizarre standing jellyfish thing, Dwain continues to back up, past the carcass of the other one that had been killed some days ago.  You cast about yourself for a stone or something to throw.

Perhaps it's just chance, but you do seem to have an intuition for how something would hunt and "see" in the dark.  The first loose rocks you find are the rust-colored remains of nearby mining: you grab a piece as you turn the corner and pitch it off to one side.  It skids nicely along the shale, making more noise than your own footfalls, and you watch carefully around the turn as the standing jellyfish comes to the mouth of the small tunnel.  It . . . stops.

. . .

Well, that was exciting.

The rest of the group continues as before.  The pick noises--and, now, Bob's pitch-free humming--become a directionless ambient din of echoing tunnel sounds.  Tohil still decides to shelter himself behind a large stone column.  Finding peace in the eye of the storm doesn't require you to go looking for storms, ya know.

. . . Okay, questions!  Dwain (Starver) is very likely to tell the rest of you assembled what he just saw.  (If he doesn't post before you do, you can assume he'll "point out the direction that might be best keeping half a dozing eye on" as stated.)  Do you do anything differently?

If you all are going to (try to) let time pass now, how long should I go?  Overnight?

If it's only overnight, then I'll have to see if Gary (Coolrune206) gets anything good out of the partial mining run.  (Mining normally takes all day.)

Spending an evening should be enough time for Bob (magmaholic) to get some rock and work on a mug.

Alyssa Alpine (Rautherdir): do you want to revert to your original inventory?

Gary continues on mining.

((I... Should have paid more attention to this.))

(To Dwain)

"Oh, hello there! I'm glad to see you alive! Did you find anything interesting over there?"
"There is much of interest, but I have probably seen so little of it. Whilst observing some curious creatures, that are stalking around in the smaller tunnels, I have probably missed so much more.

"We're running low on food, so it would probably be best to learn more about those creatures in a culinary fashion."

Head up and pelt the Jellyfish things using my sling.
