(I see that I have invited more psychopaths into my game.  I will be back tomorrow . . . and we'll see if anybody else has self-preservation instinct during this split-second decision . . . )

I will wait for any reaction from FallacyofUrist before continuing your high-speed plummet to your doom.  (Some of you faster than others.)  It's only been a day and I threw this at you rather quickly.

And as I said before, I'm giving you "a split-second" for a reason.  Call it . . . a team-building exercise!  Like a trust fall!

((Yeah, I kinda missed it.))

"We might get back to you later. For now? I'll have to see how good our picks are before I authorize any such trade."

Previous -- Next

The scaffold descends more quickly than you can react.  Almost.  Helmacon scrambles on the edge and leaps across open space toward the woman who had been peaceably offering to trade!

Spoiler: Insane idea check (click to show/hide)

You manage only to grab the backpack out of her outstretched hand before falling into the yawning abyss.  She looks almost as surprised as you look maniac.  The ground is waiting for you at the bottom of the pit.

And then, on some unseen cue, the metal floor of the scaffold opens and drops the rest of you to follow.  It's a miracle that no one else is nearly as injured as Helmacon is.

Here is the inventory for most of you.

And there's this:

Spoiler: Wheelbarrow (click to show/hide)

After acknowledging a throbbing headache and checking for broken limbs, Helmacon inspects the stolen pack.  It's . . . weird.  The pack itself is leather, but it's this sort of scaly stuff like you've never seen on a creature above ground.  Inside are some helpful items, and . . . strange objects.  They look like they're made out of turkey thigh bones but with a little blue streak down the middle.  There's a point on one end of each.

Spoiler: Helmacon (Helmacon) (click to show/hide)

Helmacon, your hands are full.  I'll just assume you stuff the new goodies into your old backpack for simplicity.

The scaffold is already being pulled back up, and now you are completely by yourself.  You are in the area shown below.  The walls are a striped, layered sort of thing.  There's an area on one wall that has rust-colored patches, and in the other direction there are several spots you'd call opalescent.

The air is whistling through cracks in the walls.  Strange: you think you hear people somewhere in there, too, and not the ones you left far overhead . . .

Thank you for your patience, Dustan (Dustan Hache), Frank (Coolrune206), and John (ziizo); we're ready for you again!  Reminder, your map is back here.

So, you know, tell me what you do.  All of you!

"Well, I bought it for a reason."

Use the Splitter wand in the wall with the crack from where the draft comes

"I'll watch the cart. Don't want it rolling into the when we aren't watching again."

Frank guards the cart, waiting for the splitter wand stuff to happen.

Helmacon remains on his back for a few seconds after landing. After an initial moment of uncertainty of his survival he coughs weakly, and holds his bag aloft in triumph. "Worth it."

Helmacon does indeed stuff all the contents of his surface backpack (including the backpack itself, Rolled as tightly as possible) into his new trophy backpack. 10/40kg

"Now, based on what that lady was saying" Helmacon begins, talking to no one in particular. "theses weird bone thingys ought to have something to do with mining!"

He theatrically removes one from the pack, waving it around haphazardly. "This here is money fellas!" He then attempts to jam it into the wall cracks to the north east between the two opalescent clusters.

Previous -- Next

(You know what?  Now that John (ziizo) and Helmacon have posted as they did, the results here are so obvious and necessary that there's no reason to make people sit around and squirm.  I'm just going to update.  As before, I don't want to skip anyone, so if people feel there's something they need to sneak in around my interruption then they get priority.)

There are words heard going back and forth, and it's obvious that there are other people down here.  John steps up to try out his recent trade.  "Try" being the operative word.  You suppose you could grip it like a pen or something.  And you walk up to the wall, and you jab the pointy end at it . . .

BOOM! goes the wall.  The "splitter wand" feels like it's yanked right out of your hand and your whole view becomes filled with dust.

BOOM! goes the wall right next to it, where Helmacon did the exact same thing.

The lot of you flinch to avoid debris, but somehow it's all an implosion, not an explosion.  Shale collapses to lie in shingles on the floor, and a large chunk of opal crashes on top.  It's like the rest of the wall just vanished.

The view is interesting.

Look at all these people!  From the perspective of the four newcomers, it's one sudden change after another.  From the perspective of the three existing exiles, it's a glimpse back at your beginnings just a few days ago.

Oh, and it looks like one of those newcomers--the one listing to the side with a massive welt on the head--has his own splitter wands, too.  One fewer now.  But that'll probably be handy.

As before, this is a 5 kg chunk of opal.  If there's ever any confusion, please remember I've added a mineral list to the first posts!

Spoiler: That would be this (click to show/hide)

And I've updated the inventory in said posts as pertains to "mystery items" because duh.  Thank you, Helmacon, for keeping track of capacity.

The Overseer moves to supervise and observe splitter wand man.

"How about this. They give us some bandages so we can fix ourselves up, and then we tell them how to survive down here. Because we're great at that."

Frank is trying out sarcasm. He's apparently rather good at it.
