(OOC welcomes to the new exiles.)

I don't know if we're only on downtime, ourselves, but my first post-rest act (if uninterrupted by Happenings as yet unrevealed) might as well be warily topping up with water, and cautiously getting the 'feel  of that flooded tunnel.

No doubt there'll be/have been some more advanced corpse-looting (if not, encairn the corpse).

And then there's the noises through the walls. If it gets to that without being dropped upon by enemies, friends-we-haven't met yet or whatever.

All fine.  I'll note that I've been defaulting to sharing water from the water keg that John (ziizo)'s got; I would have narrated it this time, but the update was long enough.  Though you do have one empty waterskin, so I'll fill that.

Also, I would have narrated that the hoarding wastrel is carrying nothing else but the usual clothing, dagger, and waterskin, but again I've been rambling.  Anyone who wants to toss stuff in the wheelbarrow is welcome to it.  (There's now a smidge of space due to your use of coal and food.  Dwain (Starver) is now the only person with food left.)

And as to interruptions . . . you'll find out.

Throw my backpack to the old man. Make trade.
"I'm going to trust your words. I accept this trade!"

Great, acknowledged.  I await the other exiles.  Back tomorrow!

Gary sits down, ignoring the requests for a trade.

Toss the old woman the wheelbarrow before anyone can react.
Nothing ventured, nothing lost.

(Since there is no wood, how much would it cost to buy a new wheelbarrow?)

He he he.  Ah ha ha.  Ah ha ha he he heee.

Typically, "surface goods" are not available for sale except in certain circumstances:

. . . However, if you find one for sale, it's at 90 opal.  I figured that it may be "priceless" and all, but at least there are a lot of them in the underground as a new one arrives with each batch of exiles.  You'll see the full list of known prices in the opening posts.

(I don't understand what do you mean with that. The text implies it's only one backpack for trade (in exchange for eitherbone of our backpacks or a wheelbarrow) and that it's a quick event so we have no time but to make the trade before we descend. Throwing your backpack would be pointless and make us lose even more inventory space. Each of them have only one backpack and thus only 2 of us could make the trade.)

But at least you seem to have been spotted: an older man is hurrying along the sinkhole floor toward the ledge you are about to pass.

You turn to see a woman running up to a ledge some distance behind you.

So!  New people?  Anything to say or do in the split second you have before you're dumped into the depths?

(I think there's some randomness in the GM's method (albeit possibly pre-rolled, with standard and random elememts, awaiting seeing if anyone takes up the offer of we-don't-know-what/if-anything). And time-constraints mean that (as I understand it) Exile A throwing an item, getting thrown an item by Underground A, then Underground A ever possibly agreeing with Exile B to throw back the first item in return for a bet on the second 'more genuine' item being returned in time...  it'd be a stretch. I wouldn't expect it to happen.)

Ah, I see what you're saying.  To be clear, yes, these two people out there are offering exactly two backpacks for trade, so there's no point for a third person to try.  (And I'm just amused at the mental picture of someone physically throwing a wheelbarrow into the air.  Players finally took me up on the offer!  I get to write about it now!)

Unless you want to say anything else in that context, Bob (magmaholic), I'll assume your reaction will be just "darn, too slow" and I'll update with that.

You surprise me. I'd have thought you'd even have a projectile-attack table prepared for the wheelbarrow...  ;)

(The ground already has a combat table:
Quote
The ground's combat table, helpless target:
1: Succeed weakly
2: Succeed
3: Succeed greatly
Attack roll: 2, Succeed!
Damage roll (1d6+1): 4+1 = 5!
Helmacon, HP: 5/10
Why not wheelbarrows too? :P)
