Wait for enemies to appear, then throw the javelin at them.

Okay, just waiting on Dwain (Starver) at this point.  I figured that there was only time to move one body in the last turn (and even then there's gonna be blood all over the place), and could use a new action!

I can also assume that Dustan (Dustan Hache) is going southwest from here unless told otherwise.

(Sorry, busy weekend. Not the only place I'm neglecting.)

If it helps, I shall continue with the task (you know me and covering bodies...) at least until inevitable chaos and commotion occurs an I have to deal with combat.

On my 'wish list' is to see what it is these two entabled corpses were working on, checking the remains visible by that bin at the NE (may be useful to obfuscate the signs of blood, if not too useful/disgusting in other ways?), check inside that and the other bins, try to identify that grey leather more completely and someone needs to get the vials...  We were told to get vials, by  killing wastrels, and I think we've done enough of that to suffice if it's ever becomes the difference between an incomplete job and possible Total Party Death.

But that's just my loud inner voice, probably, nobody else can hear it. ;)

Previous -- Next

The "time slices" for the game turns are getting rather brief as events are crammed in for your consideration.  Here we go . . .

Dwain continues at work, moving a second body into the corner.  Ew, they're leaking.  There's going to be a visible puddle no matter what.  What did you expect when murdering a blood-filled meatsack via sharp implement?  Well, you're thinking maybe you should look at that meaty-weird stuff in the northeast in case it turns out to be of help, so that could be next.

Overseer continues at . . . peace.  The hoarding wastrels have suffused the underground (at least this region of it) with their repulsive and corruptive mysticism.  You were told to expel them and install the symbols of holy religion.

The corrupting force parts before your mind, and you stand surrounded by holy symbols on untouchable ground.  Success!  Inasmuch as you can take credit for it: you're really no expert on the faiths held by these underground people, so if there's a great big magical eraser for the stains of evil then it's the holy symbols themselves.  But you do know inner peace, and if there's anyone qualified to "install" the "holy bits" then it's you.

It occurs to you that part of why you're succeeding is that the enemy isn't pushing back so hard right now.  Like there had been a cloud of smoke fed by a fire, but the fire underneath has changed.

Elsewhere (but not too-far-else), Dustan crosses the leatherworks heading southwest, with John in tow.  It's not the stealthiest, but you're keeping your weapon arm ready, and violence has served you well in tight situations.  You're just about to step out into the open when you hear . . . a splash?  Right nearby!  Feet in shallow water?

It is only then that you realize that the repeated metal banging sound has long since stopped.  The distant voices, too.  The only sounds are your own footsteps--louder than you had intended--and this splash.  And now . . .

( . . . Oops, ha ha, did I make it sound too much like a two-parter?  That's the whole update.  It gave out just enough information that I needed to see if you had any responses before continuing with this super-dramatic scene, cough cough.)

I figure at some point, you're just gonna run outta fucks to give and just off yourself whenever you get hurt at all. It's not like there's any downsides to it. Hangover? Suicide will fix that. Stubbed your toe? Suicide. Headache? Suicide. Papercut? Suicide.

Stay in the back, be wary of any attempted ambush from that direction.

I saw it almost as soon as it was posted, and am afraid then left it until someone else did something to work off of, as I went to bed. Or thought about going to bed, maybe.. My aforementioned wishlist rather still stands, if I don't personally realise the immediate threat. I shall, though, be alert. There's never enough lerts, so it looks like an occupation that should be well rewarded.

Anyway...  Meaty-weirdstuff examination, seems like a decent action, if I don't get interrupted by other events. Then bins, leathers and vials (opening, examining and, as nobody else wants them, checking-and-then-taking, respectively). But I won't get that far. (And, if I do, there'd still be another corpse to hide, before we can hardcore bluff it out that, no, we just found the workshop mysteriously empty..!)

Oh, hello, more action by others. Ziizo, I wonder if you'll get the random effect you're expecting. Good luck. To all of us!

And, to make it completely clear, when things happen, drop everything (or carefully put down anything fragile) and rush in to assist.

Excellent! Mindstrike again, targeting more than the filth's influence, target the filth themselves. Maybe I can do more than disrupt their concentration, this time. Headaches at least.

Cool.  And I'd do "a Halloween update," but I've been experiencing Halloween as Halloween otherwise (translation: running errands and eating candy), and I've got just the basics typed up right now.

Dwain (Starver): I'm presuming that any combat at this point would involve your war hammer, because it's not assassination.  Likewise, Alyssa Alpine (Rautherdir), I'm assuming ranged javelin fun.

Definitely hammer. No subtlety needed. (Not that I think we were very subtle before, except by luck. ;))

((Yep. Javelin for me. Unless an enemy gets in my face, at which point I have a sword to introduce them to.))

Previous -- Next

Let's see how this turns out.  You know, in the dark, against enemies who can see you.

. . . A new sound!  Chanting?  Wait, are they coming after you or not?

You stand at the ready, but it's darkness upon darkness: you can hardly even see the magical blast that hits John!  It knocks you skidding across the floor and into the leatherworks.  At the same time the chanting is replaced by what sounds like cursing somewhere in the shadows, cursing with a strangled tongue, and two hoarding wastrels with bared daggers appear at the edge of the light!

Spoiler: Combat round order (click to show/hide)

. . . Hoarding wastrel cultist D, hoarding wastrel cultist E, Dwain, Alyssa Alpine, Dustan, John.

One of them spars in a quick knife-fight against Dustan; you both suffer bloody gashes.  Dwain, who had still been at work in the room, is quick to respond; you rush to engage!  The hoarding wastrel's dagger is deflected by your workstone chain mail, but lamentably your war hammer counterswing just plain misses.

Alyssa Alpine's phasestrike javelin doesn't miss, and the enemy falls before a perfect throw!

Hoarding wastrel cultist D has been struck down!

Overseer hears the violence, but remains undisturbed.  You are calm before the forces of evil.  You are untouched in the eye of the storm.  You are, uh . . . not really getting anywhere else.

Yeah, you're surrounded by holy symbols and represent an untouchable bastion of goodness and peace within the corrupted space of the hoarding wastrels, but so what?  You don't know any "magic"; you were sent along with holy symbols to do all the real work.  As long as the wastrels still live and practice their freakish religion, they'll re-suffuse the air with their force after you've left, and they do know magic.  Which they're now practicing--a short distance outside of your circle of calm--with the intent to kill people.

John, picking himself up from one such magical blast, intends to turn some of those powers against them.  At least, the convenient bottled kind . . . !

Spoiler: Vile vial roll, 1d6 (click to show/hide)

The contents of the vile vial are hideous; their taste mercifully indescribable.  But no sooner do you swallow then all sensation of liquid horror vanishes, to be replaced with a new sensation.  In your mind.

You can see your own self as though doubled: here . . . and a half-second into the future!  The possible outcomes of your actions play out at the edge of awareness, guiding your hand as if by precognition!

John now removes "Fail by succeeding" from his rolls for the remainder of combat!

( . . . Up to you what you want to do with it.)

To be clear, the graphic was drawn with two live and visible hoarding wastrels because I wanted to draw the magic attack in the middle of events, but one of the visible ones is now dead.  So, you know, people moved and stuff.
