Help with scouting a diferent tunnel.

That becomes a little ambiguous, but I believe I have a logical search pattern ready for the update.  Now I await word from Overseer (FallacyofUrist).  Back tomorrow!

"This is infuriating." Okay, trying meditating while sitting down. Maybe movement is a conflict factor?

Saw that coming.  But depending on random numbers, meditation could make a nice bit of flavor on top of what happens next.

I shall update when ready!

Previous -- Next

(I was given partial directions for your exploration, so I've smooshed people around until there's coverage for a logical number of directions and tunnels.  Do note that Dustan (Dustan Hache) does not actually carry a lantern anymore, due to carrying a spiked shield, and is using light from the other exiles.)

Spoiler: Setting the scene (click to show/hide)

In full-on exploration mode, Dustan paces steadily east-southeast, trailed by others.  North and northeast look to be the same direction, so that demands fewer eyes on it.  John peels off to go a short distance southwest.  Dwain pauses in the middle of the intersection, looking to the south.  Alyssa Alpine goes ahead a ways into the tunnel to the southeast.  Dustan, reaching the wall, peers north as far as he can see.  And Overseer, back with the wheelbarrows, looks to the one remaining direction: within.

Short version: everything's weird.

Left to right, inside to out:

Overseer settles down comfortably, to (stay awake and) look within.  And . . . "up," right?  That was how it worked the first time.  But it doesn't.  Somehow, your nerves are frayed and it feels like there's a three-way war going on in your head.  And that's it; you could resolve your own internal two-way conflict, but first you must distinguish and extricate it from outside influence.  Uh . . . outside influence?

Spoiler: Out-of-game commentary (click to show/hide)

John goes to where the southwest corridor turns and looks around.  There's another branch, but dead west of you is a small chamber.  There's a carving on the far wall!  Can't make it out from here, but it looks different from the previous ones.  And the whole chamber is filthy.  Wait; the filth looks redder, muddier than mere shale gravel . . .

Dwain had been shadowing Dustan, but halts upon seeing down the path to the south.  It ends in its own small chamber.  There is a decaying mess in the middle; traces of smashed pulp, with ugly mushrooms growing.

Dustan, by the light of his fellow exiles, sees that the northern route goes for a ways.  There seems to be a mined vein of some substance on the eastern wall.  What . . . what is that mineral?  You've seen plenty down here in order to identify things, but somehow you can't focus on it in the dark.

Alyssa travels to the southeast.  One dead end branches off, but you can see there's plenty to explore, possibly with another mining site.  You haven't wandered far, but in context you just know there's something more . . .

I await reactionary deeds.

I had to check. It seems Dwain aint seen mushrooms before, but definitely does know about aggressive wildlife.

Softly alert Dustan, and maybe any others who are attentive: "Thomething hath been eating here." (One way or another, that also means something to eat. But what, or who..? And I'm not just thinking about the past.)

Be on guard, check walls and ceiling. Stay still, primed to see movement. Ready to dodge, first of all. Be prepared to look like a fool.

Hmm . . . that first part will take time, especially compared to the brevity in the instruction to "Continue investigation of the east part of the map."  So for this update I'll probably just do the first part, then show off the eastwardly-updated map, and you can tell me "south" anew if you want to.

"Mm." Then look without. Within, anyway. Look outside within my mind. Look for the opposing influence.

This is turning into a productive update.  Now I just need Dustan (Dustan Hache).

See you folks tomorrow!

. . . Does seem to be online today.  Perhaps Dustan is still on the site, available for updated gaming madness . . .
