Well, that covers that.

Spoiler: Combat round order (click to show/hide)

. . . Ragnarek, Alyssa Alpine, the ant lion, John, Dustan, the ant lemmings.  Then Dwain arrives for next turn.

Spoiler: Grand melee (click to show/hide)

Blood and venom!  Not always in the right directions . . .

What Ragnarek lacks in sanity, he makes up in enthusiasm!  Performing a remarkable flip from your prone position, you're on your feet and onto the ant lion's back before it can react.  You sink those stolen pincers right into its flesh.  Is it immune to its own venom?  It hardly matters with the damage you're dealing.

Yet the beast throws you off its back with a chittering roar!  You are propelled into a nearby wall at just the wrong angle, and the last thing you hear is the sound of your own bones breaking . . .

Ragnarok / Ragnarek has been struck down!

The rest of combat is hectic and chaotic.  Alyssa Alpine stumbles again, causing a grazing blow to DustanDustan, for his own part, just plain misses his targets.  But even though the agitated ant lemmings chomp on Alyssa, the pile going after Dustan gets so enthusiastic and so tangled that they jab each other!

Ant lemming has been struck down! x3

Speaking of which, John manages to give himself a scrape with that impaled ant lemming on his pick, before he clears it and begins slaughtering the beasts causing his legs to bleed.  Violence!

Ant lemming has been struck down! x5

And at last, Dwain, flush with information that basically no one is interested to hear right now (their loss), charges up from behind.  Wow, what's that big scary pink thing?

Ragnarok / Ragnarek (PaPaj), you died while doing something awesome.  Do you want to go back on the waitlist?

Well, don't know how much I understand the extents of the injuries, having just turned up but I would be remiss if I didn't wade in to avenge this unprovoked attack upon our peaceful adventuring team by the evil Ant Lemming invaders...(!)

(I see three (tiles'-worth of) "a"s, before I reach the "A", presently. I know how to handle the former, I'll probably take that time before launching myself directly at the latter, if it doesn't take the initiative. Take the time to work out the best place to hit. Try to shatter the claws, or could I get past them to some headlike part of the bodily carapace? Observation roll, maybe, in-between more immediate distractions. Move back, if charged - watching my step - to give me that time...)

((Minor typo corrected that makes a difference...))

Quickly attack the ant-lemming behind me before going back to attacking the ones nearby the rest of the group.

(Acknowledged, you two.)

(And yup, looks like weekdays after faster for responses than weekends presently.  Interesting.  Well, be back tomorrow!)

Keep attacking the ant lemmings. If the ant lion approaches cut one of its claws off.

Terrific, that's . . . everyone.  Wow, the player count is dropping.  Now I need only kill one more person and I can think about bringing in waitlisters.  He he he.

I could still use a reply from PaPaj about whether you would like to go back on the waitlist, as a new person or otherwise.

Spoiler: Combat round order (click to show/hide)

. . . The ant lion, John, Dwain, Dustan, Alyssa Alpine, the ant lemmings.  Though I don't think they're making it that long.

Spoiler: The raging battle (click to show/hide)

The battle has turned and the exiles are on the defensive.  The first push comes from the ant lion, charging where it sees the closest mass of human invaders: right toward Dustan and Alyssa Alpine.

Dustan turns and tries to feed the beast's claws directly into workstone, in preference to his flesh, retreating to get his sling ready again.  The ant lion tramples two of its diminutive kin in the attack!

(Finally.  You know all that armor Dustan's wearing?  I just used it in a combat table!  The monster's claws aren't armor-piercing!)

The ant lemmings scatter in the onslaught, to be met by John coming around the turn, hacking until the hive is no more.

Ant lemming has been struck down! x10

Dwain looks for an opening on the giant beast.  By your expert analysis, what you need to do is hit the thingSo you do thatDustan clobbers it with a sling stone, and Alyssa hacks at a wrist, causing a gout of blood/ichor.  With an insectoid cry of pain and exhaustion, it collapses to the ground and bleeds to death!

Ant lion has been struck down!

It's . . . horrifying.  Here in a cramped corner of a rough tunnel, unpleasant life chemicals seep across the floor.  This is on top of the intense odor of vanilla and the visual of a profoundly gross lair in the nearby chamber.  But you hear no more movement, only the panting of injured party members.

. . . Fine work, team.  And now?

Well Mission complete. Give a moment of silence honoring ragnarek death then grab one of his water-skins empty it and try to fill with the ant-lion poison.

After that go to carry the corpses outside no loot is left behind

best retrieve rag's belongings and report back to the alchemists. It sucks to lose another person during a fight with such vermin, but I suppose when you charge in using antlemming mandibles as weapons, it is inevitable. Prep to clear out the corpses if the alchemist family isn't gonna pay to keep them.

Got 'em.  Depending on what the other two (live and present) characters do, I might need to do a super-long two-update thing to get in all the upcoming events.  That would take time.  If anybody thinks my updates ramble on too long, best tell me.  I show no signs of stopping . . .

((Don't stop, just right.))

Unless anybody has any prior ideas, 'bury' companion's corpse under loose rubble. But take off the backpack, first, and use the bandages therein on whoever is the most injured (John/Alyssa) and not unwilling to sit still.

And there's still some tunnels out beyond vision. Make sure I don't turn my back on them.  If there are other hive scouting parties, I want to know.

You are aware that I am a doctor and have better healing rolls, right? I should be the one to use the bandages, and I say we grab his gear and clear everything out first.

stab the guy that is trying to butcher me

You mean "loot," not "butcher."  (Erm, right?  Does . . . does anybody have plans to butcher the corpse . . . ?)

And I can easily swap out who is doing the healing rolls.  The deceased was carrying two sets of bandages, and that conveniently matches the two people down to 4 HP, so that's two healing rolls for Dustan (Dustan Hache) to make.

Now just waiting on Alyssa Alpine (Rautherdir).
