(You could always pop up, say "well, that's a couple of dozen dealt with", and see if they are more astonished that the hive is so eadilydestroyed or concerned that this is typically not the only hive-group. Or concerned at your injuries. But the tunnels must go somewhere, so you might not have opportunity for greater loot/glory/medical-needs if you go back...)

Previous -- Next

Well, I suppose I should roll up a new . . .

Spoiler: Combat round order (click to show/hide)

. . . John, the last ant lemming, Dwain, Dustan, Ragnarek.  Assuming it gets that far.

Naturally, it takes longer to kill one little monster than any expectation of reason.  First John slings a rock and lets go at the wrong time, managing only to throw the sling.  The ant lemming seems to home in and reach up for a bite, but misses any flailing limb.  Dwain resolves the matter by hopping up the slope and whacking the enemy from the side, then politely bows out and leaves the assembled to their concerns.

Ant lemming has been struck down!

With that over, Alyssa Alpine starts up the northwestern tunnel, Dwain following.  It looks like animal marks get fainter in this direction: the bulk of the shiny trails are headed off to the east, up the slope in the direction where the tunnels are widest.  Where you are now a breeze wipes away the scent.  Sure enough, you come to a rise in the tunnel that opens out on the floor of the sinkhole, without a single crawling thing in sight.

Behind, both John and Dustan spend time regaining control of their weapons, and Dustan begins collecting . . . most of the carcasses.

Spoiler: Maniac stabby stabby (click to show/hide)

Ragnarek's rage will not be denied!  Dwain may have terminated the last live beast, but Ragnarek grabs one of the dead beasts with the most intact head and starts jabbing the pincers into other dead beastsOver and over.

But hey, whatever, he killed four of the things, leave him to them.  John backs away carefully.  Dustan makes some motions toward the entrance.

Moving-the-game-along note: the depiction in the top left is deliberately generic.  It's just another exit outside of Rock Bottom, and isn't intended to be as interesting as other details in these tunnels.

Assuming a suitable all clear nod from my compatriot, also head back and be prepared to react accordingly to...  who knows what..

(Given the strange and unusual geographygeology of tunnels, I'm not sure how permanent this link to town  is if I pop out of the end even just to sniff the air. It'd be interesting to see if the residents will, or even have to, properly block up tunnels such as this after a breakthrough. I can imagine any number of scenarios.  Dwain is still in cautious learning mode, though, and I don't think hyperdimensional metaphysics featured in my education. I'd have mentioned it, if I had thought it so.  ;) )

Try to rip one of the pincers out

Hey, with the "Succeed greatly" result, I'm assuming you've just mangled up the skull however you want.  You need a spare pincer?  You got a spare pincer.  What next?

(Given the strange and unusual geographygeology of tunnels . . . etc . . . I don't think hyperdimensional metaphysics featured in my education. . . .)

(So that you know, I appreciate the practical whimsy of your approach.)

. . . The "west" is currently understood to be a solid wall.

(Don't get me wrong.  I'd do it . . . )

I'm still a little iffy on that, but if I interpret it as "northwest," that works a little better.

Now I'm waiting to see if Dustan (Dustan Hache) has anything to add.

I figure at some point, you're just gonna run outta fucks to give and just off yourself whenever you get hurt at all. It's not like there's any downsides to it. Hangover? Suicide will fix that. Stubbed your toe? Suicide. Headache? Suicide. Papercut? Suicide.
