Off my own back, I'd edge forward to the western slope, until I illuminate no more than a half a dozen critters, or have to fight the initial handful I have seen.

If anyone charges past me with their own light, though, I'll provide support. (As I think I'll need to do with Alyssa, who I think I already have practice entering fray with..? Sword and hammer, again?)

Either way, be wary of the cracks.

That's everybody!  I won't post twice in a day since I should show some time management skills, but I'm putting together things for the next update.

(It seems like weekdays are just faster for this sort of thing.  I'm really glad you seem to be enjoying it.  Pity I need to hurry up and kill you so some other players can have a turn, but, you know, that's just old news.)

Edited P.S.: John (ziizo), you said you would stay in the back.  A glance at your character sheet shows that I last recorded you having your sling in hand.  If you wanted, then you could try to fling a rock past other people, but for now I'll just assume you wait and see what happens.

Yes right now john is occupying the only way between the ant and the people. He wants to move out of there to someplace where the ants have more targets to choose from.

Previous -- Next

Whee, charging headlong into danger!

Spoiler: Combat round order (click to show/hide)

. . . The ant lemmings, Alyssa Alpine, Dustan, Ragnarek, John, Dwain.  And there are 24 of the enemies in a mass.

Spoiler: Grand melee (click to show/hide)

The ant lemmings are on the warpath!  Before John can make a strategic retreat, filthy insect/rodent bodies swarm up the slope to dig pincers into your legs.  You fall back, leading the mass through the battle-ready midst of Dustan and Ragnarek.

Below, Alyssa Alpine descends into the depths to attack the mass from behind.  It works!  If not for expecting them all to be along the ground, when here the cracked and jagged walls provide easy perch.  Many ant lemmings are cut down by your sword, but others score deep punctures in your sword-arm.  Argh, the venemous sting of the bites!

Dustan and Ragnarek fight in the cramped space, weapons swinging.  Dustan's knife goes wide!  Your arm bumps into a wall and you drop your weapon down the nearby crevice!  Ragnarek violently eviscerates a few of the scuttling enemy, but both of you receive injuries.

Dwain, watching for enemies along the broken terrain, shows expertise again at crushing ant lemmings via the tried and true method of "hammer to the skull," and you follow up behind Alyssa, mopping up the horde . . .

Ant lemming has been struck down! x23

. . . Until just one little beastie remains crawling around, looking for something to stab.

. . . You should probably be able to stamp out that last one.  (Though I'd love to see it torment you.)  To keep the game moving, please tell me what you'd do next after the deed is done.

And a GM note . . . or, perhaps, artist's note: perspective is wacky.  I want to draw slopes so that you see an "up" or a "down" arrow from your present location.  Here we have some people who can see one side of a slope, then some people on both sides of another slope.  Whatever, I put z-level markers on the map for you.

Alyssa looks like they have a purpose, continue to support, perhaps scoop up skulls first if I've got better initiative and time to spare. Perhaps even try for that last one if I'm enough ahead of ziizo to not get in the way, because you never know who it might get a last ditch drop on. But ultimately I'm sticking to the same role.

However, I think it'd be interesting to make note of the clues of the vanilla smell and slime freshness (or not?) as we go.

bludgeon it to death with my buckler, then retrieve my knife and as many corpses as possible before leaving.

OOC: On the general principle of "kill it, kill it with fire!", I think as many of us as possible should try to target thst last one, so that the one person it inevitably gets the drop on doesn't end up being overwhelmed by it just because of anyone else who could have helped ignoring it entirely, but bear in mind the GM's end note:
To keep the game moving, please tell me what you'd do next after the deed is done.

(Semi-IC: And if Dustan just wants to grab corpses, as that free move, that's fine with me. I've got that supporting to do, and we can haggle over things at any time prior to emerging back out into the town and trading them. Assuming we don't get lost down here, though, my character thinks we have plenty of time and yet to confirm that we've finished the job. Wouldn't it be awful if dead ant-lemming icor contained a pheromone that attracted soldier ant-lemmings to someone who, say, had loads of corpses in their bag... I'm taking a risk, if there's time enough, but knowingly so... Or as knowing as someone who has doubtless had (possibly even sanctioned!) opportunity to studied the habits of the ant (if not the lemming!) in the overground life.)

(Just to be clearer, here's a proper sequential desire for my actions: 1) If nobody gets to do it first, (try to) kill that last creature, but don't clash with anyone else doing that; 2) If nobody is doing anything with the corpses, yet, start to take maybe some of my personal kills, but not to the exclusion of everything else going on, and 3) both of these tasks are to be abandoned/unstarted the moment I realise Rauth/Alyssa is making sure the job is complete/marching to their doom and that I should assist...)

Leaving in which direction?  Alyssa (Rautherdir) is striking out boldly (north-) west.

Preferrably back to town. That was all the lemmings, right?
