I figure at some point, you're just gonna run outta fucks to give and just off yourself whenever you get hurt at all. It's not like there's any downsides to it. Hangover? Suicide will fix that. Stubbed your toe? Suicide. Headache? Suicide. Papercut? Suicide.

Okay, got that one, then.  Still need Overseer (FallacyofUrist), since I can't guess what will be priority number one for this character right now; and Ragnarok (PaPaj), because this is all very new to this player and I don't want to steamroll any more than I already have.

(Do these forums experience periodic outages, or is it just me?  I was kept away from posting for a bit.  Again.)

(Yes. For me too it was inaccessible for most of yesterday (or today, just that it's now tomorrow where I am). Probably most of 12 hours, by my estimate but it would have started quite late at night Toady Standard Time, so may not have been noticed at Toady HQ until after a good, if blissfully unaware, night's sleep. Totally ignoring the additional possibility of Having A Life as well, and not just living hacker-hours.   -    Anyway, occasionally happens, but not frequent enough to specifically note as anything other than an exception.)

Hey, hey, that's okay; I'm the one posting massive text blocks into what's supposed to be a fast-moving game.

But yeah, down here money is "kilograms of opal."  (Like, there's no "gold coins" or anything.)  So I got that you're looking into science and a visit to taverns, which I'll write down with everyone else's actions for the day, that's cool.

First, though, there're these interruptions.  I've been asking players if you'd like to . . .

A.  Look at equipment lists and buy stuff?  (Big list in the first posts.  To afford much, you'd have to ask people to give you opal from the heaps in their wheelbarrows, listed in the last update.)
B.  Follow that "crafter" who seems to have an ant lemming problem?
C.  Deal with this all-too-friendly person who has an interest in the team's rock salt?  (Probably not, since you weren't around for the rock salt.)

Overseer doesn't feel like buying or selling anything. He has all the food he needs.

FoU has some twisted role ideas. Screw second-guessing this mechanical garbage spaghetti, I'm basing everything on reads and visible daytime behaviour.

Would you like to play a game of Mafia? The subforum is always open to new players.

Previous -- Next

John asks the passersby why they care about the copied images.  It amounts to "Those're mighty strange."  Turns out that these folks (some fellow non-residents) had seen carvings etched into cave walls before but they never seemed too important.  There never was a pattern, so they forget what they saw.  But since you keep finding these, "it looks like somebody's carving a story or scene like one of those illuminated manuscripts above-ground."  "If those are ugly mugs, though, then it's not church art; so what's the point?"  "Eh, maybe somebody else knows."  And then they wander off.  Guh.

While they're talking, Ragnarok gets some shopping done, and Durenadal and Overseer wind up face-to-face with the beaming representative of Salt.  Thankfully he seems true to his word, just very . . . insistent.  You get rock salt converted into opal, cram every spare fraction of your own wheelbarrows with the winnings, and leave them to wheel away their property.

. . . Is that it?

Ding!

You completed an adventure: SALT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON!  All survivors gain +1 to current and maximum HP.

(To be clear: that's everyone getting +1 HP whether you said you're heading across town or not, whether you're a new player or not.  "Heroic deeds were done and you were nearby."  I've also updated inventories in the first post based on purchases and sales.)

The wheelbarrow work is all clearly in good hands, and the remainder of the exiles--Alyssa Alpine, Dwain, Dustan--leave them behind in preference of this ant lemming deal.  The crafter who mentioned it goes to find somebody else--apparently, they are a husband and wife duo--giving John a moment to wrap up conversation before they lead the four of you across town.

While walking, those of you who are new get this opportunity to take in the view; Rock Bottom is to a large extent carved straight out of stalagmites, or built with slabs of shale hewn from them.  No stalactites, however.  Nothing comes from the ceiling except a distant diffuse glow.

Your guides speak.  They say they are alchemists, actually, and there's a spot of trouble at their place of work by "the outdistricts."  Your confidence levels rise.

"This is the place." says Tikhomir, notably not stepping in the front door.  You see what appears to be a tidy workbuilding along the side of the road.  This is at what you guess to be the northeastern end of Rock Bottom.

"The trouble is downstairs.  Those things broke through the wall!  They're probably here because they found water near town, but since they found our equipment, they've been chewing it all up and carrying away anything they can eat!  Can you get rid of them?"

"Normally we'd ask the city guards for help." adds Militsa.  "We're kin with the guard, of course, but recently our daughter had a bad experience getting them to do anything."

. . . Overseer (FallacyofUrist) and Ragnarok (PaPaj): you will see that you are "off-camera."  If you want, you can follow these other people (and bring the wheelbarrows, now that the trade is done) and arrive next "turn."

If not, then we will treat the group as split.  I have recorded what sort of work you want to do today, so that's no problem: I can deal with these other people and then get back to you once interruptions are over.  We'll just blur over any questions of "where'd the money go?" and assume anyone can get access to those wheelbarrows whenever needed today.  (There's a bank available for security anyway.)
