"You do?"
What happened with the energy weapons from the first guys we encountered, anyway?  Avi would like one of those.

There seem to be enough of the rifles left for anyone who wishes to carry one.

"Yeah, yeah. They're friendly. Well, for the most part. I'm on good terms with them at least. Though they look a bit tense right now. We'd best avoid startling them."

"Good!  You go first."

Avi has been trying to figure out how the rifle works.

Titus nods at Koi and prepares his suit to be syncronized and moves up to the traveler. "I'll be right behind you just in case."

"Hey! Yo! Friends!"

The creatures move into defensive positions and those with the rods raise them. Slowly, the Traveler steps out into the open. "Hey and hey! You are known to me. How fare you on the tides of an unseen sea?" He recites this in an almost sing-song voice.

The creatures lower their guard. One of them wriggles their antennae and produces a series of unsettling noises and sensations in nearby observers, which is somehow understood as "You are known to the Mi-Go. Welcome. The tides are terrible and bring naught but death." The translation seems strained somehow.

Looking back towards cover, the Traveler calls out "It's cool, you guys can come out."

No comes out.

"Interesting. Have I ever seen you before?"

Mythos exists of 'Mi-Go' Minimal data stored. Pinging Local Unit Espada for details as they are likely more acquainted.

Koi and presumably Espada link their sensory bits with Titus's suit. Back to scanning!

No comes out.

"Interesting. Have I ever seen you before?"

Two of the Mi-Go approach No and roam their antennae over his sleeves. The one who had spoken before "says" "A No is not known to us. Mi-Go could beforehand be known to a No."

Titus' HUD pings. "Unknown network signature requesting access. Permission?"

Espada returns 20th century lore gleaned from interviews in the amish world. Creatures bearing the same name reportedly appeared in the work of an author of print fiction.

The creatures don't seem to have anything physically anomalous about them aside from confounding compositional scans. Your spatial senses give you a tiny inkling of vertigo looking at them, as if they were teetering on the brink of physical instability. They also seem to take notice of your scans, and a few of them approach and start running their antennae over you and Espada. The one addressing the Traveler "speaks" again. "Appreciable trade value. The tides are not in favor for us to make an offer. Under other skies perhaps."

"Yeah, no, no. He's with me. They're all with me. They're ah..." he snaps his fingers a couple times, as if to remember. "Crew. The crew who sails the unkind tides. Ya ken?"

Titus allows the network access to his suits sensory systems.

Titus allows the network access to his suits sensory systems.

"What's the prize?"

As Titus starts keying the two KX9 into his tactical uplink, he picks up a handful of high-energy signatures approaching on his tactmap.

The Mi-Go emit a piercing shriek and begin to run in the opposite direction from the approaching signatures, which is rather strange to see given their odd forms. "The tides of death rise upon us!"

*STREEEEEEEEEEEEEE*

Some of the Mi-Go raise the rod devices towards something beyond the big pillar, but are struck by painfully bright white beams that screech through the air, and fall instantly limp to the ground. None of the armed Mi-Go get a chance to return fire, and only a few of their group make it into cover.

"Blast."

No seeks cover before all else. He also tries to get a visual of what's attacking.

"HALT!"

Before anyone in the group can reach cover, the Mi-Go's assailants come into view. They appear mechanical, like some kind of miniaturized armored vehicles standing at just under two meters tall. Their forms are segmented into three vertical sections, a lower "skirt" covered in hemispherical bumps, a midsection with two metal appendages on the front, and a top segment with a third appendage that looks like an eyestalk: it gives them a shape not unlike giant, bizarre salt-shakers.

Koi and Espada recieve a ping

INSTRUCTIONS: REMAIN STATIONARY. IDENTIFY.
NONCOMPLIANCE = DESTRUCTION

The things speak in electronic voices that screech almost as badly as their weapons. "YOU WILL HALT!"
