PROLOGUE:
Once, there was a fortress known to the dwarves as Goldcall (or Limulidos in Old Dwarven.) The settlers had come to find riches in the earth to give to their king. They mined and mined, unearthing many things from coal to fuel their furnaces, priceless gemstones to create astonishing works of art not even humans could recreate, and iron, to craft armor, weapons, and to make the strongest metal, steel.
As they dug, they came across a strange light blue metal.
They studied it. Sharper than steel, lighter than cork, and impervious to magma. It was a fabled metal, adamantine!
The miners dug more of the metal, greed in their eyes. Then, it happened.
A careless miner uncovered a hollow spot.
Demons upon demons flooded out, slaying all in their wake. A lone survivor took his anvil and some adamantine and left.
He crafted a powerful great axe, which he imbued with holy power. He then placed it on the tallest of mountains, to keep it out of the wrong hands.
CHAPTER I:
It was a troubling time for Amberarm, the Mountainhome of old. Rumors of goblin assault had ran rampant through the many taverns of The Shaken Picks and now the rumors reached Amberarm's old inn, The Outrageous Berries.
Many were on edge, including for the king, Zan Blushdirt. He was pondering on a way to calm his people.
For starters, they needed morale. He decided to read to keep from being too stressed.
As he read, he saw descriptions of an adamantine axe of immense value. An idea quickly struck, like a blacksmith's hammer to his forge. Why not find the axe? It may boost their morale, perhaps.
There was a problem though. He was 166. He could die anyday now. So he sent for his Royal Guard. None were willing, except a young dwarf named Kokeb Sunstone. He would find a good dwarf to help with the adventure.
He found his friend, Shoduk Korber, a local drunkard and former cheesemaker. Kokeb, without explaination, yanked Shoduk by the beard to the king's quarters.
Shoduk: "Hey, lemme go, Kokeb! I did nothing wrong! I don't deserve a hammering!"
Kokeb reassures his friend.
Kokeb: "Shoduk, I ain't here to bring ya to your death."
Shoduk: "Then why am I here?!"
Kokeb: "You'll see, old friend."
Zan emerges from his room and examines Shoduk.
Zan: "Are you brave? Are you strong? Are you smart?"
Shoduk: "Yes, yes, and somewhat."
Zan: "You'll have to do."
Shoduk: "Your Highness, what do you mean?"
Zan: "I ask of you, Shoduk, a important task. It is to restore the morale of our people by reclaiming an ancient artifact which lies on the tallest mountain in all of the world, The Horn of Truth. The mountain is south from here. The artifact is an axe crafted out of the legendary adamantine. Its handle, surrounded in gold bands."
Shoduk: "So... You want me to climb a giant mountain in the south to claim some old stupid axe?"
Zan: "You'll receive a room of gold, a statue, leadership of 3 squads, and all the rye beer you could desire."
Shoduk: "Deal!"
But as he was heading off, a somewhat cocky militia captain, Tobul Crowndagger, stops him.
Tobul: "Ah, just heard of your quest. I'm coming along."
Shoduk: "Why?"
Tobul: "Look, you have no military experience."
Shoduk: "My brother showed me how to work a crossbow in case of a goblin attack."
Tobul: "...Okay, you have a slight bit of experience. But still!"
Shoduk: "I suppose the more of us there are, the better we can fend off something."
Tobul: "Are we to set foot or not?!"
CHAPTER II:
And so they were off!
Shoduk, Kokeb, and Tobul quickly packed supplies and rations, picking from the best foods they could think of.
As they walked out of Amberarm's granite halls, they saw the outside.
As they began to clear up from the cave adaptation and aimed their vomit into hard to see areas, they stared in wonder at the beautiful cliffsides of the area.
Shoduk: "Wow..."
Kokeb: "Those are big..."
Tobul: "Despite my usual distaste for nature, this is gorgeous."
After staring at the cliffs for about 2 minutes, they began to head off truely to the Horn of Truth.
However, a few hours into their journey, a bit of trouble began to sneak by.
Tobul was the first to notice. He heard as something was in the bushes nearby.
Tobul: "Who's there?!"
Shoduk: "Probably just a raccoon."
Kokeb: "What are you two going on about?"
Tobul: "Do ya not hear something in the bushes, ya half wit?!"
Suddenly, a rhesus macaque man bursts from the bushes, brandishing a pointy bronze dagger!
RMM (or Rhesus Macaque Man): "Hand over your possessions!"
Tobul, realizing that this little thing didn't stand a chance against him, draws out his silver mace and chases the skulking animal man.
