Xeno was taken aback by the information. He was aware that it was probably extremely unfortunate for the people of Cor to be cut off from the rest of the worlds, but to be completely annihilated? That was a different matter entirely.

"That's... That's something alright." An entire planet destroyed, just like that? Could that happen to the other worlds? Xeno sat down on the fountain feeling overwhelmed.

Branwen takes in the information about Cor, considering it deeply.

So the Gates, if closed, could somehow destroy whole worlds. For a moment, she imagined the same happening to her homeland, but she shut her eyes, banishing the vision from her mind. It wouldn't happen, not on her watch.

She'd been sent out because the situation was dire; the meeting of the Elders had told her as much, when she was chosen as the one who should find the solution to the problems of the world. She didn't know that the stakes were so dire, if she should fail to complete her quest.

Still, Branwen couldn't panic now. Her people depended on her and may the crows take her if she failed.
"For my part, a few elders, like myself, were guarding the Gate on my side as I entered. Nobody else was there."

"...Did anyone see an academy mage on duty near the gates? Any at all?" Burhardt was beginning to think that the likelihood of each of the patrol teams being on break all at once was incredibly unlikely.

Branwen's hand instinctively heads to the handle of her axe. The situation wasn't looking too good.
"What do they look like? Is there supposed to be?"

"There are supposed to be. Can't see any here, either, besides maybe Lukas..." she waves to the other Mage Academy member - seems she had noticed him - "And while I'm with the Academy, I'm only a Pupil - not a full mage yet - and I wasn't on guard duty."

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

Lukas frowned slightly, sensing a shift in the atmosphere as the conversation suddenly changed. It just wasn't normal for traffic through the Gates to just suddenly...stop.

He had been on this assignment for less than a day. Had the Mage's Council suspected that something might happen?

"I think," the inquisitor spoke, slowly, "that it may be a good idea to get a closer look at whatever is going on. Anyone who wishes to leave, please make sure to send for help." Calmly, Lukas rose to his feet and pulled a magic tome from his bag.

Burhardt stood up, and pulled his right glove a little tighter on his hand. "We should check the guard stations. Make sure the guards are all right, and get some answers if they aren't." Either way, I'll soon have some new questions to ask.

Branwen approaches Burhardt, producing her axe.
"Do you mind if I accompany you? If this is an unusual happening in this land, I would prefer to get to the bottom of it before I am rendered incapable of doing what I came here to do."

Burhardt looked up at the tower of a woman. "As long as you can handle yourself, sure. If there's trouble, I know I'll only be able to handle so much." Burhardt turned his attention to Luna. "You wanna get some people from the Academy, or...?"

"Is there a point? If I did and you guys found something, it'd probably be over before I got back. If we end up needing it I'll go, but for now..."

Burhardt nodded, and made his way to the guardhouse, presumably followed by Luna and Branwen, only to find it totally empty. "Shit." The mage drew his shabby, cobbled together tome, and flipped it open. A mumbled incantion later and his right hand was coated with a translucent purple energy field. "There must be some kind of emergency. They wouldn't all wander off at once and leave no one here without a good reason. And they sure as hell would have raised an alarm."

"HEY! What are you doing there? Get away from there."

Two men dressed in ill-fitted guard uniforms ran up, one carrying a tome, the other not obviously armed.

"What are you trying to pull? Don't you know only official guards can go in there?

Lukas checked on the Gates, looking for anything unusual. He hoped that there wasn't anything wrong; the world did not need a second Cor.
