Saw this, and it was too good to pass up for a first post, so here goes.
Note:  This is my opinion of what happened, what actually happened was probably much simpler, but my version sounds more interesting.

Anyways, there I was, minding my own business when a raccoon wanders along and starts harrassing my dwarves...  So, like a good ruler, I nab the closest dwarf and "volunteer" him into service. (just got my first spring wave, so I dont have a standing military yet).
Well, the closest dwarf happened to be my wardog trainer (who was outside having a smoke), and upset that his break was abruptly cut short, he rushes the raccoon, grabs it, and THROWS it into a filled-water channel.  He then runs over and holds it down until it drowns.  Finished with his deed, he wanders back over to the wall, and finishes his smoke break.

Morale of the story:  Don't upset a wardog trainer, especially on his break.

It was my first try at adventure mode, and i was a human swordsman, using a bronze scimitar.

So the mayor tells me to go slay a titan, Knowing this is my first time, i decided death was imminent.

I wander to the titans cave, and slay soem weak beasties. Then i find the titan.

I ran from it for a bit, but eventually was cornered.

he steps beside mea and i make a last ditch effort to live.

I hit the damn titan in the face and ripped out every body part there (both eyes, both ears, nose mabie, throat, and mouth)

He is knocked unconcious, and i continue to try to slay him. He eventally dies of blood loss. I still have this character, he is legendary everything and has slaughtered a whole goblin fortress with a sheild and rocks.

The randomness akin to a live world never ceases to amaze me.

Just today, I had my first not-too-violent priceless moment with a comedic value.

The cave river was flooding, and it happened that it struck a bridge that was being crossed by the Fer noble and her pet cat. They were both tossed into the river just south, and were in a five row river area between two bridges.

First, the cat rose to the southern bridge, and started walking west while the flood was still continuing. Then the noble managed to drag herself up, wet beard and all.

Unfortunately, the cat had gambled its direction poorly, as the flood surged downstream to where it was meowing. Wham! The flood struck the cat so hard, it was tossed upstream and back to the bridge, straight into the chest of the Fer noble.
The impact knocked the noble unconscious and they both fell into the river again. Where they eventually drowned. Apparently dwarves aren't invulnerable to little furballs.

Just today I had some cows attacking kobolds every time they entered the hall just past my traps.  I never expected mutant attack cows... That was definitely priceless watching cows tear apart kobolds.

I had some soldiers deal with a titan in a similar way once. My military and their wardogs were all piling on, but were doing virtually no damage at all, while taking terrible losses. Then two soldiers managed to wrestle the titan into a nearby pond, and keep wrestling until they all drowned. It was a mighty and heroic deed.

Also, attack cows are awesome. I try to get as many cows and horses assigned to dwarves as possible, in case chasm monsters come crawling. Even if the monsters don't get trampled to death, it helps to present the monster with targets that aren't valuable dwarfs.

I was trying out the adventure mode, and I was exploring some ruins... I literally massacred several frogmen, they had no chance. I was looking for some more to kill when suddenly a text pops up saying there's a dragon in front of me. I didn't see anything, but I figured it's better be safe than sorry and get the hell outta there.

So I was walking the 1-square narrow corridor outside, and suddenly another text pops up saying that the dragon is breathing fire! Like, holy smokes, I'm in a hurry here. The flame was literally 1 step behind me as a turned around the cave entrance.

So naturally I was fleeing to the closest map edge, presumably to the west, and then the dragon popped out, that flashing green D. It chased me all the way to the edge and it would breath fire - And I would quickly take cover from the small insets of the cliff wall!

It was like straight from some fantasy action movie, just awesome.

This just happened to me, a testament to how awesome Dwarf Fortress is.

My latest fort... I just got tired of the way I carved it out, so I abandoned it. It had some impressive irrigation going on and went all the way to the magma flow. So I sent an adventurer to go take a look at it.

The first one died from a cave spider. The second killed the cave spider that killed the first, and went to pull a switch to block a passage. Damn that view change, however, as I pulled the switch that floods my farm. I forgot I never put a channel by the door for safety when I went to go check to see if it flooded.

...That adventurer drowned. My next one went in and I thought the water is 'cleared' when the adventurer dies. The next door I opened proved me wrong! In a panic I swam down and opened doors to rooms to grab air as I raced for the chasm, thinging that if I made it across the bridge I MIGHT be safe by the magma. Or not, but I was doomed anyway.

I barged through a door and a Ratman tried to stab me. I assume he didn't understand why I ran down the hallway so fast as thousands of tons of water smacked and drowned him.

I made it all the way to the chasm where I fell in, accidentally... It was one hell of a rush!

Cog Bimkilrud, Miner is throwing a tantrum!
(my legendary miner, yikes, I have no military to speak of!  Lucky for me she is off in the corner and has a long way to run before harming anyone or anything of particular value...)
Stray kitten (Tame) has been struck down.  (by Cog, yikes, she has gone evil!)
Rough Gneiss Bridge destroyed by Cog Bimkilrud, Miner.
(She couldn't be *THAT* stupid, could she?...)
Cog Bimkilrud, Miner has died in the heat.

She destroyed the bridge she was standing on, the first one she found... it happened to be straddling my always active lava channel.

1 dabbling marksdwarf + 1 bone bolt + 1 titan = a wounded and angry creature dripping blood all over my fort before dieing.

he broke pretty much all doors and stomped through all rooms...

One of my most favourite tantruming dwarves drowned herself by destroying a bridge over the cave river with herself and no one else on it.

I was rather pleased, to say the least, that the situation resolved itself with no serious damage. ;-)

My legendary adventurer was confronted by an elf swordsman. I promptly took away the elf's sword, shield, ripped his clothes off and beat him to death with his loincloth.

My favourite story is from way back.
It was adventure mode, and me and my band of meatshields had been tasked with defeating a giant. Given we'd been fighting all sorts of monsters, I foolishly felt no fear!

As we explored the lair, I was the first to come across him.
At that stage I still did not appreciate the danger, because I attacked him.
At first, it appeared to be an even match. I wasn't really doing any damage, but he wasn't hitting me, and I was dodging about.

Then the inevitable happened, he hit me, hard, flinging me across the room, breaking my arm, I dropped my weapon where I had previously stood.
Standing up again, I attempted to get my weapon, while my companions slowly worked their way towards me.

I utterly failed to retrieve that weapon, as the giant then smashed me in the face, knocking me unconscious.

I woke up shortly later to find several of my companions dead and the last ones being dealt with a few tiles away. The giant, on the other hand, was barely injured.

I found my own legs had been broken, and I obviously could not move to retrieve my own weapon. I started moving away, hoping to escape, despite my injuries, knowing in my heart I would be unable to save my comrades.

Unfortunately, my attempt to escape was cut short by the giant's efficiency, as he pounded the last of my allies into oblivion, he then turned back to me, obviously surprised I was still alive.

He marched towards me, and I searched my belongings and found, to my glee, an exceptional scimitar.

I knew that I would be unable to fight him, I had only the sword, and not even my shield remained at hand, as it appeared that arm was thoroughly broken.

As he loomed over me, I threw that scimitar with what was left of my might. It whirled towards him and... sliced off an entire arm!

He instantly blacked out from pain, and I pulled myself over to him, gouging his eyes, and strangling him until he died.

Grabbing my belongings and escaping that dark lair, my deed done, I saved the grief for my comrades for safer locales.

This adventurer turned into one serious hardcase. I think he later killed a dragon in a single spear throw.

The story behind this screenshot:

I was playing as an adventurer on a world which i had reached the adamantine on. I had, at this fortress, made a full set of addy armour and twin masterwork adamantine shortswords.

I then decide that i want them for my nearly legendary swordsdwarf, so i manage to find the fortress and venture inside, After tackling a couple of small groups of enemies, i explore faster. I realise my mistake when i run round the corner into a veritable HORDE of enemies...

(i had killed about half of them by this point, and this was only on one tile...)

It's not really so much an event, but something that I read.  One day when I was looking through the mental thoughts of my dwarves before I started up a game, I noticed that one of them "likes tentacle demons for their corrupt intentions".  I fear.
