Diagonal vs Orthogonal Movement Between Tiles
« on: February 08, 2017, 02:49:54 pm »

Was watching a small dwarf carry a big stone away from danger when I noticed he moved to orthogonal tiles quicker than diagonal tiles.  Im guessing dwarves take 40% more time to move diagonally, which would still make diagonal hallways a clear winner.

If the math uses the actual distance traveled the diagonal should be the square root of two times an orthogonal one (about 1.4, which means about 40%...). It means corridors that provide the shortest path between two points is faster than one that makes the dorf only in the cardinal directions when moving between points which are not along a cardinal direction.
