All dwarven Civilizations dying out?
« on: February 07, 2017, 09:08:03 pm »

So I started a new game, all default world settings. (cause I was a noob like that.) After I started my first fortress and doing a ton of research on what to do, my fortress was rather stable. Though on the dawn of year two, where the Liaison usually came, I received this notification.

No outpost Liaison? How curious...

I set my fortress on autopilot mode seeing it was stable, and opened legends viewer. First things first. According to the history, there were at first 5 kingdoms dwarf kingdoms. There were two before my departure and they both do not have royalty and their capitals were burned because of a alliance that the humans and goblins had. The kingdom I was under fell to a goblin siege.

To sum this up my world seems to have all of the dwarf civilizations going under, and well mine seems to be the only stable one forming... I don't really know what to do, considering how the way the world generated it set everything against me. I'd rather not abandon it...

Ah, never mind. Re-read your post and removed my comment.

Currently a "dying" civilization plays very much like a thriving civilization. New nobles will be appointed (including a liaison, and potentially a monarch at your site), and caravans and immigrants will roll in as normal. In short, there's really no reason you can't keep playing if you want to.

The main difference between a healthy dwarven civ and one in trouble is that instead of creating a metropolis and meeting the other requirements for summoning the monarch, a fortress in a struggling civ can suddenly be saddled by the election of a new monarch in the fortress (and that can happen even if the civ was healthy when you embarked). Apart from having to scramble to meet the upstart monarch's room requirements, you miss out on some minor things a proper summoning of a monarch would have brought.
Also, monarchs have a legendary level in the mandate spewing skill...
