Mafia:
Tiruin: Tiruin’s Avatar(mafia):
(Night): Royal Canadian Mounted Police [target]: Your target is thrown in Canadian jail by the RCMP. This roleblocks them, but also protects them from kill actions.
(1-Shot, Night, Mafiakill): Armée canadienne [target]: You command the entire Canadian army to kill your target. There’s no kill like overkill. This not only kills them twice, but also lets you know who they visited tonight, if anybody, because you also command the Intelligence branches.
(1-Shot, Night): Canadian Bureaucracy: Choose a department or agency from this list(other than the Royal Canadian Mounted Police or the Canadian Army). You gain a 1-Shot ability based on that agency.
As a mafia player, you also have access to a communications quicktopic between you and your partner, as well as the factional Mafiakill.
Commentary: Canadian Bureaucracy was the only real special thing here(the Mafiakill 1-Shot was just a slightly more powerful variant of Liberal Crime Squad).
4maskwolf: Your Average Joe(mafia):
(Night): Crash Course: Choose an academic subject or skill or whatnot. There is a chance tonight that you gain a 1-Shot ability based on that subject or skill. The chance starts at 50%. It goes up by 15% for a subject that is easier than average to learn and goes down by 15% for a subject that is harder than average to learn. The chance is also increased by 10% if you’ve used Crash Course on a significantly related skill/subject, and by 20% if you’ve used Crash Course the same one previously.
(1-Shot, Auto): Adrenaline Rush: When you would be killed, you instead survive through dumb luck and determination. You cannot take any actions, including the mafiakill, during the next night, as you need to recover.
As a mafia player, you also have access to a communications quicktopic between you and your partner, as well as the factional Mafiakill.
Commentary: 4maskwolf had the potential to become quite powerful, however a flaw in this role later made itself manifest. To quote 4maskwolf from the scumchat:
There's also an issue with my role: in a larger game, like the mega-games on Mafia Universe where there are like 90-100 players, multiple forms of killing and short days, with a decent sized mafia team, it'd be a fun role, allowing the mafia to adapt at the cost of having a role with little initial power. However, in a two-man scumteam alongside a scum with an actual, reliable, and powerful night action a role like mine will inherently be pressured to perform the nightkill every night since the other role has more immediate and reliable effect on the game, as well as my role's non-interactivity giving me plausible deniability for the scumkill. In other words, my role is cool and would be okay in certain contexts, but not such a small game with a scum team of two.
Overall mafia commentary: A mafia that grows more powerful over time? How dreadful... maybe. Seemed balanced to me, but as 4maskwolf said, that potential is stopped by the pressure to perform the mafiakill, which I didn't think about.
Town:
TheDarkStar: The Fallacy's BYOR 2 Role That Has The Only Vote That Determines Who Is Lynched, Even If It Belongs To A Dead Player(town):
(Auto): Deciding Vote: For as long as you are in the game, dead or alive, the voting system is set to Trial. Trial is divided into two phases: the Choice phase, and the Lynch phase. In the Choice phase, you choose who is up for lynch with your vote, even if you are dead. The day will continue until you do so. In the Lynch Phase, there will be a deadline, and all players will vote on whether or not the chosen player will be lynched or not. If the players choose not to lynch the chosen player, the day returns to the Choice phase, if the Lynch Phase was the first of the day. Choose wisely. At the start of the game, the message below will be posted:
The voting system is currently Trial. In Trial, the day is further split into two phases: Choice, and Lynch. In the Choice phase, there will be no deadline, and TheDarkStar will choose who is up for lynch. In the Lynch phase, there will be a deadline, and all the players will choose if the player up for lynch will be lynched or not. If not is chosen and the current Lynch phase is the first of the day, the day will return to the Choice phase.
(1-Shot, Day): LITERALLY: You’re not having any of that workaround nonsense. [This ability can only be used in the Choice phase][erratta:If Deciding Vote is active, this ability can only be used in the Choice phase]. For the duration of this day, the lynch system returns to normal… except you have the only vote. No, you can’t use this ability if you’re dead.
Commentary: This is what comes of trying to make a balanced and fun role that fits the shakeragian submission literally. Seemed to work out well enough... at least until activity slowed as a result. Seemed the best option. Another potential option was changing the voting to an inverse voting system: whoever has the least votes is lynched, and giving TheDarkStar a vote that counts negative. Couldn't quite figure out how to make that system work, however.
TheBiggerFish: Enthusiastic Inning(town)
(Auto): Enthusiasm: Nothing can stop you from posting in the thread!
(1-Shot, Day, Unusable): In Again!: After you die, this ability loses the Unusable tag. Using this ability lets you join the game again with a new role submission. Note that your alignment will be randomly determined if you do this(same odds as You Go In Too!). You cannot use this ability if you have deadchat access(which is optional in your case).
(1-Shot, Night): You Go In Too!: Choose a non-player and compose a 250-char or shorter message. I will offer the chosen non-player a spot in the game with a PM, and include your message in the PM. If they accept, they will submit a role name and join the game with that role at the start of the following day. Their alignment will be randomly determined: They will have a 2/9 chance of being mafia, and a 7/9 chance of being town.
Commentary: Morse code. More importantly, however: the most controversial and broken role in the game. You Go In Too was fine. Enthusiasm was under-utilized but fine. In Again was the real issue: A ridiculously powerful potentially LYLO-breaking ability. If I wanted to include an ability like that again, I would apply several of these limitations:
Cannot be used except in the day phase following the player's death, or the same day phase if day killed.
Cannot submit shakeragian roles, or can only choose from a few options.
Higher chance of becoming scum?
I would say it's the worst(in terms of design) of the lot, but... well, keep reading.
Deus Asmoth: Granny Weatherwax(town):
(Night): A bit of borrowing [target]: You find a stray bird or bee or whatnot and hitch a ride on its mind, allowing you to stealthily keep an eye on your target. You may choose whether to track them(learning who they target) or watch them(learning who targets them).
(Auto): Headstrong: You are immune to certain abilities. No, you don’t get to know what they are. (secret: complete immunity: Play For Stakes, A Long Chat, A Spritz of Love, possibly some Canadian agency abilities)
(Auto): Broomstick riding: You cannot be roleblocked.
(1-Shot, Night): “Curse ye!” [target]: Using your knowledge of headology, you convince the target that they’re cursed. Each night action they perform on subsequent nights has a 50% chance of failure. If they succeed in a night action, the “curse” goes away.
Commentary: Strong town role. Fairly standard, relatively speaking. Broomstick riding was a counter for Tiruin's jail keeping. Not much to say.
Cinder: Love Doctor(town):
(Night): A Long Chat [target]: You take a long chat with your target, preventing them from doing whatever they had planned tonight(in other words, you roleblock them). In the course of this chatting, you will eventually establish a sort of rapport with them: the second time you use this on a given player, you’ll learn their role name.
(1-Shot, Night): A Spritz of Love [target]: You spray your target in the face with a mind-affecting drug that induces intense compassion and caring towards another player of your choice(which can be you). Your target will vote for whoever your choice votes for at the end of the next day, and they will automatically use Sacrificial Protect on your choice the next night.
(Reference): (Night): Sacrificial Protect [target]: If your target would be hit by a night kill, you are hit instead. This only works for one night kill.
Commentary: There could have been voting shenanigans this game. There weren't, though. Another decent town role.
BlackHeartKabal: A role crafted out of the concept of a Gambler(town)
(Night): Play for Stakes [target]: You accost your target and force them to play a game of dice with you. You and your target both roll 5 dice(this is handled by the mod), and whoever has the highest total is the winner. In the event of a tie, nothing happens. When you use this action, you may also choose the stakes.
-(Stakes): Your Life: The loser is killed.
-(Stakes): Your Vote: At the end of the next day, the loser votes for whoever the winner is voting for, unless some other ability forces them to vote differently.
-(Stakes): Your Information: The winner learns what one of the loser’s abilities, chosen at random, is. Mafiakills cannot be revealed by this.
(1-Shot, Day): Casino Royale: All players gain (1-Shot, Day): Slot Machine. The day is extended by 48 hours.
(Reference): Slot Machine: When you use this ability, it is publicly announced that you did so, but not what was rolled(unless you roll a 1 or 2). At the end of the phase in which you gained this ability, it is removed from your role. When you use this ability, you are affected by a random effect rolled by the mod on this table:
1: The slot machine explodes in your face. You cannot post in the thread for the remainder of the day(or for the next day, if you used this during the night), though you can still vote. Also, the explosion removes a random ability you have from your role.
2: Like 1, but without the ability removal.
3: Nothing.
4: Nope.
5: Still nothing.
6: Aha… no.
7: You gain a 1-Shot Night ability from this list, chosen at random: Randomize, Slot Machine, Tarot “Reading”, Block.
8: You gain a 1-Shot Night ability from this list, chosen at random: Redirect, Karma, Slot Machine, Temp Resurrect(target is revived for only the next phase).
9: You may choose one of your abilities and have it improved in some manner.
10: Only the one who caused this madness in the first place knows what this is. (hidden: You gain (1-Shot, Day): Mini Casino Royale: Each player has a 50% chance of gaining (1-Shot, Day): Slot Machine. The day is extended by 24 hours.)
Commentary: I liked this one. Shame nobody rolled really well with a Slot Machine. Aside from Tiruin, who never used her Mini Casino. Play For Stakes was an ability similarly powered as Casino Royale, balanced by the chance of turning its effect against its user. On a scale of extremeness: Your Information, Your Vote, Your Life. The least extreme of these options was Your Information, where the most was Your Life.
flame99: Demolitions(town):
(Night): Blow Them Out of The Way [target]: All roleblocks used on your target fail, mainly because you explode whoever would try to do so. Anyone who tries to roleblock your target also loses a random ability from their role as a result of being exploded.
(1-Shot, Night): Time Bomb [target]: You place a time bomb under your target’s house. At the end of the next night, it explodes, killing them.
(Night): Disarm [target]: If your target would be hit by a kill tonight as a result of Time Bomb, that doesn’t happen, and you regain your shot of Time Bomb.
Commentary: Town really shot themselves in the back this game, and this role was part of that. And all of a sudden I realize something broken as part of Disarm. Wait, never mind. Unlikely to ever be a factor given the "at the end of the next night" thing as opposed to "next night".
webadict: Merchant with a Caravan of Exotic Goods(town):
(Auto): Capitalism!: You may make two actions each night until you use Trade Network. Also, abilities cannot be removed from your role(though any non-auto ability that would be removed from your role is instead rendered unusable for the next phase it could be used in).
(Night): Market Research [target]: You study your target and what 3 items in your possession your target might be happy to have. A second use of Market Research on the same target narrows it down to 1 item.
(Night): Sales Pitch [target]: Choose an item in your possession you think your target would be happy to have. If you choose correctly, your target gains a new ability, you lose the item from Exotic Goods, and you gain a quicktopic with your target. “Happy to have” is not defined by the player you target, but by innate role facts.
(1-Shot, Day): Trade Network: You can no longer use Market Research and Sales Pitch(they become Unusable), and all quicktopics made by Sales Pitch are closed. You gain a quicktopic with all living players you previously successfully used Sales Pitch on. You learn if there are any third parties in the quicktopic. Living players in the quicktopic may use Trade. If you die, the quicktopic remains intact.
(Auto): Exotic Goods: You are currently in possession of:
A runic explosive. (Hidden: flame99) (BOOM!)
A geology textbook. (Hidden: nobody)
A pair of binoculars. (Hidden: 4maskwolf) (Watch)
A Deck of Many Things. (Hidden: BlackHeartKabal) (Draw a Card)
A sturdy pickaxe. (Hidden: nobody)
A basket of herbs. (Hidden: Deus Asmoth) (Remedy)
A bottle of maple syrup. (Hidden: Tiruin) (Canadian Breakfast Party!)
A megaphone. (Hidden: TheBiggerFish) (IN IN IN IN IN)
A set of obsidian tiles with letters on them. (Hidden: TheDarkStar) (Speak From the Grave)
A bone wand. (Hidden: nobody)
A charm bracelet. (Hidden: Cinder) (Peace, Man!)
A pair of purple boots. (Hidden: nobody)
(Reference): (Night): Trade [target]: Choose a non-mafiakill ability in your role. If your target uses Trade on you this night, the chosen abilities switch.
Commentary: I'm not sure if this role or that of BlackHeartKabal was my favorite. Anyways... Two night actions per night, no damage to role, a pseudo-inspect, gifts... all balanced out by the risk of helping scum and the inability to do really solid things like a protect or a block. The role is capped off with Trade Network, which sadly was never used.
TheBiggerFish:
Why did you have to do this to me. Commentary: Actually part of the flavor!
The Fallacy's BYOR 2 Role That Is Guaranteed To Be Town And Have The Same Wincon As A Town Player And Otherwise Count As Town, And (Guaranteed To) Have The Role Powers Of All Roles Ever In Fallacy's BYOR 2, Free From Use Restrictions Aside From The Initial Use Restrictions Applied To Said Powers As Part Of Their Generation Process(mafia, hypothetically).
(Auto): Wincon Paradox: You are now two players. TBF Alpha is town and TBF Beta is mafia.
(1-Shot, X): Role Cornucopia: Choose two players. TBF Alpha gains the powers the first player you choose had initially, and TBF Beta gains the powers the second player you choose initially had. ((You have all the powers, you just lose all of them except for two sets.))
As a mafia member, TBF Beta has access to the mafiachat and the factional mafiakill. TBF Alpha has no such access.
Commentary: The actual worst role of the game. This is why I'm taking veto power over role submissions, so I can never worry over balancing a role such as this again. Webadict probably could have done better.
TBF Alpha: Enthusiastic Inning(town)

If they accept, they will submit a role name and join the game with that role at the start of the following day. Their alignment will be randomly determined: They will have a 2/9 chance of being mafia, and a 7/9 chance of being town.
Commentary: Chained brokenness. Fish could have done much worse by doing this, but thankfully decided not to.
TBF Alpha: The FBYOR Role With Two Daykills(town)
(1-Shot, Day): Taking the lynch into your own hands [target]: If today ended with a no lynch, you kill the target before night starts.
(1-Shot, Night): Kill the day: The next day is skipped.
Commentary: Much easier to break than Fish's earlier resubmission. Also a decent role.
TBF Beta: Enthusiastic Inning(mafia)

Commentary: More chained brokenness.
Overall commentary: Good game(or decent at least), until In Again broke it.
Game not thrown, game horribly broken.
Something something superposition something 2/9 chance something.
I...I think I broke it...
Basically this.
By the way, Town seems very doomed. :v
Mafia would have won anyway(and quicker), methinks, if not for In Again.
