Name: Tiorneskal Mayuradana
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Race: Harpy
Planet of Origin: Ssistyl
Mug:
Physical Description: As for appearance beyond what his mug shows, the back of his arms, his sides, and his body from the waist down is covered in feathers similar to the wings on his back, except brighter in color and with a much smoother shift in colors resulting in less total variation. His legs are also completely
birdlike, being digitigrade and ending in powerful anisodactyl talons that he walks on or occasionally hops or perches on things with. His arms and hands are human save for the feathers however, as they are a clear evolutionary advantage. His wings, when spread, have 'eye'-like shapes along the bottom edge of the feathers, but these shapes aren't present on his feathers elsewhere.
Backstory: To understand Tio, it is first necessary to understand the culture he hails from. Ordartas is a kingdom of harpies located near the equator of Ssistyl, with their aeries situated in the hollowed-out caves near the top of several mesas that rise above the jungle. The social structure of Ordartas is based entirely on breeding; those with dull feathers such as Crow breeds are common laborers and miners, while the more brilliantly feathered Swan breeds make up much of the aristocracy. Of all the breeds of harpies, however, there is only one family that has such colorful, iridescent plumage: the Mayuradana. Believed by all harpies to have been chosen by Aeromeri herself to rule the harpies, the Mayuradana have been the kings of Ordartas for as long as recorded memory shows - and kings indeed, for the telltale feathers only show up in the sons of the Mayuradana; without fail females of the line are always of the same breed as their mother, lending more power to the belief the family has been 'chosen'.
Tiorneskal is the ninth son of the current King, Tanirris XII, and while still an important person in the hierarchy of Ordartas, is far enough away from succession that he was allowed to go to Hub to act as a sort of ambassador for his home. However, much of the reason he was allowed to leave was because of his radical ideas of reform; he feels that Ordartas would be a stronger nation if its people were promoted based on merit and ability rather than their appearance. For obvious reasons, this was a highly unpopular opinion among the nobility of Ordartas, and when Tio expressed a desire to visit other worlds and learn from them he was encouraged to do so.
As a prince, it is fair to say Tio is a little imperious and a little spoiled, but he has a good heart and the will to work to improve himself. He doesn't particularly like violence but he believes that a prince ought to fight for his people - whether that fight be political or physical - and a man ought to fight for his friends; to this end he trained alongside the Grouse soldiers and picked up techniques for spear fighting, particularly javelins. It is also likely that mingling among these lower classes is where he picked up his ideas of equality. His interests are travel - particularly encountering new customs and people - and broadening his horizons. Although normally an upbeat individual he can be a little wary around people he doesn't know too well; even as far away from succession as he is, he's had enough people interested in him only for his standing or appearance that he tends to wait and see what their motives are before he feels he can relax around them and be himself.
