I should state that I am using SPECIFICALLY Ryleh the section of ocean under the ocean. Not Ryleh the palace of Cthulhu. (Since I am not sure the books ever really differentiated between the two)
Where are you pulling this from? AFAIK, R'lyeh only refers to the city. I've never heard it used to any section of ocean.

Well in I think... Shadow over Innsmouth (Think as in... I don't know if that is what it is called... I get the names of the books confused because of how many things sound similar)

There are two of these referenced...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Undersea seems like a very pleasant reference, at least to me. Even the Dusters have some of the aspects on them.

Wait... is... the reason most people have been going "No your wrong" because I've been arguing the "Secrets mechanics" and they were like "No, that is a silly reason to believe it takes place in Ryleh for that reason!" because... I was stating that to say that the game is rather Lovecraftian... which is entirely unrelated.

Because "takes place if Ryleh" is only based on being a sea under the sea, the sort of dark looming presence, some of the people, and the Dusters... It was more of a nod...

Lovecraftian is what I've been arguing the entire time... and even if the game DID take place if Ryleh (which is arguable with me on the losing side) it doesn't make it lovecraftian... Otherwise Conan the Barbarian would be Lovecraftian.

Nope.

http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/soi.aspx

I'm about 95% sure you've made this up yourself.  The word 'Ryleh' has been used in an entire three posts on /r/lovecraft, all presumably typos, and none in the context of it being a sub-ocean.  I believe that you believe what you're saying, but that doesn't mean it has any basis in truth.  Can you please quit derailing the thread with this nonsense?

I just wanted to make a point... But people aren't letting me make one because no one meets me halfway while disrespecting my opinion... and it is unfair to disrespect my opinion while not even letting me show my opinion.

Neo, you're free to make whatever point you want. The fact that people are disagreeing with you isn't stopping you. The fact that I am personally not interested in the parallels you see between this game and other fiction doesn't stop you from making them known. We literally cannot stop you from making your point, so I'm not sure where you get the 'people aren't letting me make one'. We don't have to meet you halfway on views or opinions we don't share, but that still doesn't stop you from sharing them.

If you legit think someone is being disrespectful, feel free to report them or ignore them at your discretion.

I kinda feel like someone who knew enough about Lovecraft's work to fairly compare it to other works of fiction would at the very least spell R'lyeh correctly.

Wait a minute... You are the same person O_o

Alright, but I get the last word.

It is always kind of the test to see how serious someone is about "Well, that is your opinion and I'll respect that but it is only your opinion". If they will not give you the last word... Then that isn't what is going on, they just want to be right, and are telling you to stop.

So yes I will 100% stop arguing if I am allowed the last word.

An interesting test seeing as you're the one demanding the last word. Does that mean you just want to be right? :)

Neo, there is no such thing as 'last word' in a discussion about opinion, as nothing is set in stone except your/their stance.  Stop trying to win an argument, the healthy thing to do is make your point, listen to opposing views, and correct misunderstandings, on your side or theirs.

While I could say no... yes it does mean that by the merit of my own test. :P

Edit: Anyhow, I'll finish some things in PMs...  am still curious if not Ryleh, what that tunnel was... (though dimension wobbly Lovecraft unspecifity stuff)

I'm not quite sure where all of that came from, but I'm gonna assume its why the thread was locked earlier?

People are saying that they are moving on from the argument.  This is good.  Please do so!  This topic is report-y now.

They've made Sunless Sea free for the weekend as part of the Kickstarter.

Smart move, as it's a good glimpse at the style and storytelling. I'll have to let a few friends know.

Looks like all stretch goals (including one looking tantalisingly SMEN-like) have been hit, and the Kickstarter will be wrapping up in ~17 hours.  Now the impatient waiting begins  :D :-\

Signups are open to non-backers too.  Expect it to be very early in development though.
