Just dropping in to say the democratic party worked very hard to earn this humiliating defeat in the electoral, popular, senate, and house votes all at once. I can't believe theres still people in this thread saying all their rights are going to get taken away, theyre gonna put the gays in camps, and you need to leave the US. Seriously? Where were you during the last trump presidency? It's exactly that attitude, constantly, on MSNBC and NPR and Twitter and Reddit and every niche forum and discord server they can get their claws in, that has people sick of the dems.

Calm down, take a deep breath, go outside, and if it still really matters to you, start hoping the democrats can change the image of their party and develop a campaign where they talk about their own policy more than lying about what the other guy's policy is.

Was biden a better choice afterall...

There wasn't really any good juncture to make any other choice than him, until the issue was forced and then there was no good juncture to make any choice but Harris. Actively going through even performative motions of "so who do we really want?", at any point, would have just been playing into the hands of the opposition, with no other obvious aspirants (even now, there's no "We would have been better off with <Foo>" talk, it seems, perhaps excluding anything for Biden, which I'll not consider serious). How much of this 'transitional status-quo' was "behind the scenes machinations" is arguable, but it was at least as valid a process (at face value) as that which returned the 'choice' of Republican candidate, given the situation and schedule. Everything else being the same, Biden couldn't realistically have done better if he'd have hung on.

What seems clear from the demographical breakdown is that women don't vote (either way) as much as men, and that it's middle-aged people who are disproportionately influential (not seniors). And a surprisingly large anti-Harris push from the black community.

I'm going to give the 'credit' to the spinmeisters behind the President-(re)elect's campaign (Project 2025, etc) who managed to use all the various random events fully to their advantage, posing and framing their man in far better light than he actually deserves, and probably using every dirty trick in the book against the Democratic effort. Possibly a few not even in the books, too. (Modern politics has become a 'spinocracy', and I admire but worry about parties that actually try not to go full meme. Admire for their relative integrity, but worry that they're hobbling themselves against those for whom the end always justifies their means.)

Where were you during the last trump presidency?

Saying that the 2nd term will be mostly like the 1st is oversimplification

Different vice president, different supreme court, different house and senate, even the Republican party itself is different.

T’be fair the GOP did have all arms of the legislature for the first half of his first term, only John McCain saved ACA then though.

Let’s see if his Concepts Of A Plan can save healthcare in America.

What’s Trump’s policy?
Ironically for all for all the talk about "Project 2025", trump has a website with his policy under the similarly scary name Agenda 47. He goes into detail on a lot of subjects with specific plans and their purposes. Take this page for example: https://www.donaldjtrump.com/agenda47/agenda47-america-must-have-the-1-lowest-cost-energy-and-electricity-on-earth

I wouldn't blame you if you can't find it since Google buries it under news articles telling you how to feel about it, instead of letting you see the actual thing for yourself, but this has been around for a while and it's frustrating to see people say "Oh, trump has no policy either". You might disagree with much of what is in there, but the fact is dems have genuinely avoided acknowledging this sort of thing.

They campaigned on hurting people. They campaigned on deregulation. They need an Other to hurt to be relevant, because you can't hurt people in your in-group if you want an in-group. They campaigned on mass deportation and use of military force to do it, and they campaigned against queer rights.

I'm pretty damn willing to believe their word on the matter, because I'd really rather not be getting hurt. I really don't think that people being distraught here is the problem, especially when the conservatives are the 'fuck your feelings' party to begin with.

Yeah I’m reading through the document and it’s… light on actual policy beyond “cut away everything Joe Biden did” and “drill baby drill” with a whole heck of a lot of criticism of Biden (the word “Biden” appears 71 times in the document compared to 68 times for “Trump”) and saying Trump is the greatest ever through very selective choices of information and framing. My favourite bit was this:

Quote
UNDER PRESIDENT TRUMP, THE UNITED STATES ACHIEVED ENERGY INDEPENDENCE, AND SOON WOULD HAVE GAINED ENERGY DOMINANCE, WITH LOW-COST ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY UNDER PRESIDENT TRUMP FUELING THE GREATEST ECONOMY IN HISTORY WITH NO INFLATION

No inflation? Okay then.

I live in a battleground state, and none of that was mentioned in the ads I saw from Trump’s campaign, it was all attacks on trans folk, immigrants, and that Democrats will cause WWIII. I mean the idea seemed to be “get rid of the immigrants and all your problems will be solved” without acknowledging any of the problems that would arise without the immigrants, legal or not.

This would probably be a better reflection on what they want to do, while again being light on actual policy.

I'm sure that's the democrats you're talking about.
Not sure if you are trolling or if you actually haven't followed anything that Trump and his cronies have been saying they'd do for the past months.

Yeah, I mean all it really should have taken is these two things:

Trump saying the National Guard and military should be used against the “Enemy Within”.

Trump name checking two prominent Democrat politicians as the Enemy Within.

I'd like to point out that the conservative SC ended abortion as a right and made the president not-quite-immune-but-hard-to-nail legally.

There's definitely been lasting effects. I can't see this being the End of the United States, but it's not going to be healthy for yes.

I have absolutely no faith in Trump's capacity to get beyond 'Concepts of a Plan' for any of the dumb shit he talks about. Last time, Trump surrounded himself with typical politicians and bureaucrats who ensured that his Concepts never went any further than that. This time, Trump is surrounding himself with RFK and Musk and Vance, all idiots intent upon turning every inch of our Federal Government inside out and then burning it to the ground.

It's with absolutely no sense of dramatic exaggeration that I say I genuinely fear for the fate of this Country right now.

It would be nice.

Trump may not be particularly bothered about Project 2025, but Republicans control the Senate and are probably on the way to getting the lower chamber too. Harris showed how easily manipulated Trump is during the debate, so it probably isn’t going to take much to get him to sign off on it.
