Greed is not a sin, it is a vice.

Sin is an inherently religious concept, but vice is not.  Capitalists want to spin a vice as a virtue, but that's like claiming that "rape and pillage" tactics are good, because they widen the gene pool.

I said "among other reasons" for a reason.

I am officially a Christian Socialist by now, have been since a few days ago. I am not a Marxist or communist by any means though, because I disagree with Marxism's basic conclusion and in addition see it as irreconcilable with Christianity (or any religion at all).

I also tend to be a bit contrarian because I believe most extreme positions to be wrong, and honestly think people benefit from an opposing viewpoint.

Trump openly praised Putin. He'd leave Ukraine in the dust. Besides, why would I give a gram of support to the guy who removed 2 regulations for every one added?

Trump is a narcissistic showman who reinforced all the negative stereotypes and normalized "if you shout loud enough you can get your way."  He also did untold damage by promoting the idea of "everyone do whatever is right in their own eyes."  And that's not even getting into his policies.  He praises people who use force and coercion to get what they want.

The worst I can say about Biden is he seems harmless.  I don't know what kind of resolve he really has, and I can't even say I know what kind of resolve I hope he has.

My wife asked me "why doesn't any other country provide direct military support to Ukraine?"  My answer: Russia has nukes and people think Putin really would use them, not because he's mad but because he's likely not mad but is actually indeed evil.

So you have to ask yourself, not what could we have done to prevent this (because that ship has sailed) but what can we do now that this has happened?  I don't honestly know - the best I can come up with is how do you provide better incentive to the people of Russia to pick a new leader than the incentives they now have to keep their existing leadership?

He barely kept the 2021 riots under control. Now, unrest is at an all-time high in more than a decade at the very least. His days are numbered. Especially if he loses, then he's completely doomed as even a chunk of his supporters leave him.

When an authoritarian leader cooperates with an external authoritarian leader, it is to bring exterior political force against interior political opponents.

Trump didn't stop anything from happening with Russia. Trump cooperated with Putin's agenda and Putin cooperated with Trump's. Both gained politically against internal political opponents.

Also, Trump didn't stop anything from happening with Kim Jong-un. That was another "reality" show event.

In each cases, both authoritarian leaders gained something they could show to their people and they gained it from an external source that could not be countered by local politics. They rose themselves up politically and their political rivals could not raise themselves up the same way.

And the herd-followers say "Our herd-leader successfully fought the great foe, that is why he should be leader, and you wannabe leaders need to do it better before I will accept you as a leader".
