Smooth is as smooth brains. With some people it's pretty much a given that expecting them to argue in good faith is a lost cause.

Teachers, teachers without masks, teachers without masks on a bottle.

I'm curious as to how a tank would evolve. Would it climb out of the primordial ooze wiggling it's track-nubs, feeding on smaller jeeps before crawling onto the shore having evolved proper treds?

Well why don't we just ban all arguments then, if you're going to be like that!

It's been pretty blatant for a while that they only reason they haven't yet brought the heavy end of the hammer down is that investigating him has led them to a really huge number of potential accomplices and additional targets, and didn't want to spook their prey . Maybe they're finally reaching the end of that trail.

I dunno, if you were connected to Gaetz and this filth at all, I feel like all that would do is give associates and accomplices time to cover their tracks.

The reading on Joel Greenberg is wild though. Stole half a million dollars, spent another million on typical FL shit (ammunition and body armor), impersonated a police officer, crypto fraud....the list just goes on and on and on. And THEN you get to the sex trafficking.

You'd think that, but people are stupid. By all the signs, a lot of people seem to have assumed that their tracks were covered.

That is a Trump-quality tweet. How are they the last people willing to believe the science on this, and then act like there was no way to know that 2 years ago?

You aren't thinking cynically enough.

Politicians are not (in the modern era especially) in the habit of actually solving problems; A good problem is one you can kick along until the populace solves it for you, but which you can manouver to get better PR and thus get re-elected.  (See also the issues with race relations, climate change, income disparity, healthcare affordability, etc....)

Covid spreads because of the status-quo. Only severe disruptions to the status quo will cause a reduction in its spread.  It mutates rapidly, because it is a motherfucking corona virus.  The specialists that deal with corona viruses have been warning about this potentiality for over a decade and a half. Since the only really effective methods for dealing with such an eventuality is massive disruption to the status-quo (as it relates to cramming people elbows to assholes into movie theaters, airplanes, and diners, and also as it relates to patient zero traveling literally all the way around the world with 30 minute stop-overs in a dozen countries, because they went on vacation in Borneo), it was blatantly and purposefully ignored (because god forbid you actually have at least a plan for the eventuality, rather than just pointedly ignore the risk because it is political suicide to implement) (and then cause the scientists to be smeared as chicken littles for decades!), and then lo and behold, HERE WE FUCKING ARE.

See, this politician is just absolutely stunned that the usual methods of "Ignore it and it will go away!" has not worked.

This is why you should not vote for the most glib, personable, attractive, and generally likable candidate, and instead focus on the politicians track record on actually resolving problems or advancing needed legislation (rather than obstructionism.)

We, the electorate, are responsible for raising these people to office, and allowing this behavior.  The Pandemic just thrust it into sharp relief.

While I don't disagree, it would need an absolutely killer advertising campaign to sell that to the general populace.

Omicron might actually turn out to be a good thing. The natural evolution of viruses favors viruses that don't kill their hosts, and has weak symptoms, so there becomes less of a reason to quarantine. It's goal is to reproduce, not kill, and omicron's higher spread rate and lower death rate follows this closely. It will probably start to push the other harsher variants out of the human population, and lower death rates all around, and allow for even tamer versions to evolve.
