Politics is inherently worthless, it's only valuable as a means to accomplish your actual goals.  As a holder of a government position with salary and benefits, your only real goal is to keep your seat.  People making shoes in a sweatshop overseas, or people picking fruit for pennies in the American southwest, don't have any way to help you do that.

Remember, a conspiracy is just a bunch of people acting in their own best interest.
