Apparently about an hour ago President Trump went on stage to condemn the rioters and concede.  Well I'm not sure he so much conceded the election more he admitted that he won't be president anymore.

Considering that just 24 hours ago he was calling them(the rioters) justified I feel like this is a "Well shit my coup failed, and I might be forcefully removed from office early. Better distance myself as much as possible from everything I said and did the last few weeks, and pretend to be remorseful, so that if they do remove me they look like the assholes not me."

In the same address Trump also claimed that he immediately sent in the National Guard, when by all credible accounts he refused to send them in and Pence had to be the one to call the Pentagon from his bunker to make the request for support. Trump also claimed that he was horrified and disgusted watching the riots take place, while his aides claim that his response was actually excitement and cheer.

The general assumption seems to be that his change in attitude is in response to the wave of appointees and staff who are quitting in protest against Trump. It's not a good look for his legacy if everyone betrays him in the final weeks of his presidency.

Based on what I read Pence had to claim he was unable to locate the President in order to call it in.

Also, DeVos resigned during the concession't speech, citing the violence. In practice I think this makes it less likely for the 25th to be invoked given it requires a majority of the cabinet to agree.

Yeah, there was an update that apparently he was "just" on life support until family arrived and the initial report was incorrect.

... latest I'm seeing is that he's actually kicked it, now, though.

This occured to me when I heard of various inner-circle resignations (staffers as well). The 'reasonable' ones (at least after the fact, and/or just comparatively so) are removing themselves from their positions of direct influence of various kinds.

Though a couple of those not yet departing seem to be staying on the personal principle of better to stay inside the tent that Trump is pissing out of...

People making jokes about the crazy makeup of the crowd and I'm just thinking "man, when was the last time I saw a loose coalition of business-owners, racists, religious zealots, monarchists, and weird eco-shaman dudes street-fighting with leftists and trying to take over the government?"

Probably never, that's probably never happened, and there's no previous precedent for this kind of thing that might suggest any future paths this kind of group might take.

Doesn't DC have the highest cop-to-population ratio? Didn't they manage to put a cop on every street corner before the whole Breonna Taylor deal? The national guard is not the only problem here. The police themselves did not prepare for something planned out in the open online. There are also police waving people in with glee. A group of people shouldn't be able to waltz around the capital like that. Multiple people had to refuse defenses.

Especially since a lady got shot trying to get into the place where the congressmen were holed up.  She should have never gotten that far in, police utterly failed to control the situation.  People acting like this is some kind of own to the defund the police people, but police aren't defunded yet.  They failed to do the job we're paying them for.

Dreading the possibility they feel emboldened by this and try it again at the white house or something once Biden's in office.  These dudes aren't gonna take selfies with you

They are going to try. They're counting down to violence now that Trump is "out of the way." Looks like the next big thing will pop off on inauguration day. You can check out TheDonald.win to see the discussions but I don't really recommend it. I only take glances at it before getting very upset and needing to cool off for a while.

Fascism in the 20th century saw a loose coalition between occult esoterists, religious sectarians, religious zealots, fundamentalists, environmentalists, pagans, neo-pagans, clericalists, theocrats, monarchists, industrialists, socialists, nationalists, conservatives, oligarchs, small business owners e.t.c. so it's not entirely without precedence. As long as you have a strong man keeping everything together you can create a faction of very strange bedfellows
