Can somebody explain me what the fuck is going up in your country and why there is a viking painted in red and blue in some building? Is the USA being raided?
My power was cut for 6 hours and now I find alarming news and this thread with several pages of new messages.
My internet is acting up and this is one of the few pages that actually finish loading after several attempts.
Hundreds of MAGA people organized a "protest" which was actually a coordinated invasion of the halls of Congress (and also the Georgia and Kansas state houses, due to the Georgian run-off results). They looted and defaced art, hung white superiority and Nazi flags, and shouted from the Congressional pulpit that Trump won the election.
They were removed with very few casualties, maybe even 1, despite being armed and dangerous. The cops did not stop them, and the cops were allowed to leave the building by the rioters. The national guard and SWAT eventually arrived and captured the remaining rioters.
Nonviolent left-wing protests are never treated so mercifully, much less people who are charging towards a congressional session with weapons. Instead of being beaten, shot and disappeared for interrogation, there's video of rioters being escorted down the steps by hand. They've apologized for the one rioter who was killed.
Remember a few weeks ago when I said that I didn't think what was happening was a coup?
Today was what a coup actually looks like.
If Donald Trump is only removed from office tonight there is a great injustice. If he and his flunkies in congress are not in handcuffs by midnight justice has failed.
Maybe we'll see another impeachment attempt, if only to hold him publicly accountable and keep him from running again. I'm not counting on it. Congresswoman Cori Bush is attempting something a bit grander which might be fun:
https://twitter.com/RepCori/status/1346926083350794240Twitter is now removing Trump's tweets. This is the first time they do that, even though they were already placing fake news warnings with his tweets before.
From what I heard they did remove one tweet for doxxing reasons, which didn't cause a stink because it was allowed back up minus the personal information. No idea what tweet though.
Also, there are two lessons to take from this:
Cops have the option to be nonviolent
Cops may be afraid of weapons
Sometimes the best way to avoid bloodshed is to not rely on mercy. We've seen what they do when we're unarmed.
Though that does drastically increase the charges against the rioters... Not that it'll matter once Trump pardons them. Go in peace, indeed. Hopefully that leads to Biden pardoning some nonviolent protesters on the 20th.
Oh, and some related covid madness,
supposedly many of the younger Republican representatives refused to mask up in the cramped evacuation conditions. Seems perfectly likely, let's see how it works out for them.
