Really, I’m surprised I haven’t heard of any cops switching sides yet, considering Trump’s whole ”law and order” schtick, and all of 2020. Should we be happy they seemingly value the American political establishment and some kind of policiary loyalty more than the lives of black civilians?

Of course, if no one has to die that’s the best outcome.

There's a video making the rounds of a cop taking selfies with MAGAs, plus another of the cops moving the barriers to let the would-be-coupers in.

I'm still torn between hoping some of those protesters are stupid enough to try and take on the National Guard, and knowing that shit's going to get worse if they do that.

I wish I had your optimism that this is simply just some folks who "boiled over" and it will all be fine as soon as the news cycle finishes.

The ramifications from this, even if the crowd is dispersed more or less peaceably, are going to be terrible.

Many years ago it wasn't apparent to me how numerous and influential they were.  I was happier with that lack of knowledge, and I'll never be able to return to that.

Support for Trump != showing up at the capitol armed and storming buildings. Those are people who don't feel they have anything to lose, or they don't care what they lose. You can pretty much call the demographics those people fall in. You don't see people with $1 million in assets out there risking their asses for a political stunt or paroxysms of political violence.

It's easy to view a mob and be overwhelmed by their sheer numbers, to inflate their influence just by the sheer size of the crowd. Consider that if you combined all the people in America who aren't about this shit and put them on the street, the mob in DC would barely be a drop of water in the ocean.
