The concern I have about that is, basically, how many of them voted that way because they actually looked at what had happened over these past four years and went "yes please" in response, how many voted that way out of antipathy towards voting any other way, and how many vote for the party they've always voted for out of sheer force of habit.

Well, if there is a floor to just how stupid one can be but no real ceiling for smartness - then the smartest are going to pull the average above the median and so more than half of people are below average.

And this ignores the fact that everybody has ways in which they are easily capable of being utter morons.

If MaxSpin is to be believed, a portion of Americans just paid lower taxes and are comfortable with how the pandemic went. I can imagine a lot of people ignoring all news because it's too negative and voting Trump for status quo. There are all the single-issue voters and the religious base which now includes QAnon. I guess there's a large population who voted Trump to own the libs too. Fat cats who love riding the casino stock market Trump causes also have a lot of sway.

I've become less surprised at Trump's popularity lately. I still think it's misguided and at its core misogynistic and worse.

Anyway, a piece of wet toast is our president now. Georgia better run off for the Dems otherwise a wave of apathy is going to put us in the same exact situation in a couple years.
