I mean the tragedy of mom-and-pop ultimately does involve t things like maintenance.

Vis-a-vis Cash Payments, one of the really mindboggling things is that, under an unprecedented circumstances, Congress was briefly forced to perform its duty of legislating. It wasn't like "our idea was to give poor people money as a policy" it was specifically "holy shit the economy is about to implode so hard downtown Manhattan may be physically annihilated by sheer force of the stock market producing a Chicxulub-sized crater. Our economy is actually going to enter freefall and people will be unable to put food on the table. Giving people some money os the only way we can think of to avoid a borderline apocalyptic situation."

Really, it's still amazing it happened at all, but if it had not I am uncertain the economic situation of the country would be... well there's a reason the stock market had a hesrt attack when trump declared there would be no stimulus.

"Now Congress ma boi, you have to save the Americans."
"I don't wanna."
"CONGRESS, you save the Americans now or you won't get more political donations until supper!"
[Begrudgingly saves the bare minimum of Americans for the moment]

It's ingenious really, congress gets to decide the salaries of congress members. At least they have voted to deny their annual raise each year since 2010, so it's stuck at $174,000 /year/member. I wonder why. Goodwill?

Incentivizes taking lobby money. The horrible irony here is that Congress having more perks would probably make them somewhat less corrupt, as long as those perks are things a real human being could use as opposed to 100k+ haircut expenses.

A relatively recent example of this is how AOC found it very difficult to actually take her seat in Congress, because being in Congress means living in DC, and DC housing is ridiculously expensive. A barrier that only stands for people who don't debase themselves in corruption, an actual pro-corruption filter.

Then consider the concept of velocity of money. A thousand dollars in a low income households is basically a thousand dollars straight into the economy.

Well, obviously not if the cash is injected directly into their veins! >:(
Is the Dark Economy not connected to the Economy?

(Maybe, in some ways, inversely, but not all.)

While I am 1000% on board with this line of thinking, I think what Dwarfy means is that the money doesn’t fix the problems that resulted in needing the cash injection in the first place.
Iirc it's legitimately one of the better ways to fix those problems, though. Not always the absolute best, but one of the better. It turns out a lot of the problems in question can, in fact, be fixed by the people effected by it having the money to, well, do something besides barely keep a roof over their head, if that.

You can fix problems directly, too, like providing housing or mitigating various other infrastructure problems, but people actually aren't entirely fucking stupid and if you steadily stick a good bit of dosh into a community that's having trouble related to not having enough dosh it's fairly common the folks involved figure out how the fuck to make the issue stop being an issue.

Case in point, a decent cell/smart phone is one of the best bang for buck investments a low income person can make these days :P

... iphone's probably questionably "decent" but it's hard to blame low information/time folks going for a high visibility option, heh.

I do however accept the criticism that most politics is fradulent labeling.

re-edit: I'll admit I'm mostly only familiar with US and german politics, but it's not a localized phenomenon

Are you even attempting to state anything? Point is still

Code: [Select]
SocialDemocrat == DemocratSocialist

if "SocialDemocrat" =/ DemocratSocialist
then "SocialDemocrat" =/ SocialDemocrat

To be fair, social democrats is a label usually applied to European centre left (more centre than left) while "democratic socialists" usually claim to be further left in the political spectrum. They're so toothless and have abandoned traditional left politics in favor of... other stuff that in practice there's not so much difference.

The SCOTUS thing is happening right now. Mrs. "Roe v Wade sucks" hasn't given a straight answer to anything. I suspect it's because of her belief in the inferiority of women, her inability to consult the men in her life, and their lack of forethought to have had those men prepare her some notes. But the superspreader in charge started the proceedings with an attack on the ACA and she's perfectly capable of furthering that goal so meet your new member of the SCOTUS.

Everything sucks and it's getting worse.
