The derision and outrage I was talking about was caused by him cancelling the diplomatic visit, which is separate to the "buy Greenland" thing. When you start terminating diplomatic relations, it has consequences that merely mouthing off dumb shit doesn't. The reaction to the original thing about Greenland was more bemused that anything actually, but when he terminated the visit, people got pissed off because they were in the middle of preparations, and the visit was invited by the Queen of Denmark, and they've made the point that cancelling it is an insult to her.

He didn't terminate diplomatic relations, all he did was cancel a diplomatic invitation which had been in the plans for months. Sounded like Pompeo was able to patch it up, but relations between Trump and the Denmark PM are definetly permanently damaged over what is very much a childish self-stab by Trump, as would be the relationship between him and the Queen of Denmark.

Meanwhile, it's just another day in the Trump adminstration with allies trying to wait him out, but it may be much harder to fix things after four more years of Trump, or maybe most of them can easily reset, no idea.

He can't directly do that no, pretty sure he can't directly do it. The only way I know of would be putting massive sanctions on China like we do Iran and NK.
