Yet it would have taken them literally just seconds to verify his state issued ID. There's a magnetic strip on the back for a damn reason you know.

https://www.idautomation.com/barcode-scanners/msr-check-readers/read-drivers-license.html

There's enough points of data on a driver's license (and also a state ID card,) that a positive identity can be confirmed with a simple database query with the department of motor vehicles. The DMV has information about birth certificates on file in their systems, which could be used to validate the birth certificate excerpt.

This entire process could have been confirmed in literal seconds.

BUT, somebody felt that they were likely forgeries, because he looked mexican, had a mexican name, and in the past had a mis-filed travel visa.

If she is a greencard holder, and gave birth while vacationing in mexico, he would be a mexican citizen, no?

Doesn't change the fact that mom is naturalized in the US, lives in the US, and that her older boy actually was born in the US, and is a US citizen.

These kinds of edge cases are WHY you validate the data presented, and dont make assumptions.

God how I wish I could replace right-wingers with undocumented immigrants. At least then I wouldn't have to keep up with the Fox News alternate reality that now exists alongside our own.

You know how renaming liquid fuel reserves as "Freedom Gas" was part of the greater effort to spread freedom to other parts of the world?

This is the other part.

So you are okay with the fact that an American citizen was kept in custody and about to be deported over a mistake?

Extra worrying in that article is this:

"They were trying to force him to sign his own deportation order." This suggests that the problem is bigger than reported, per deporting US citizens. (And it is, we have discussed it here before. ICE has a handbook to help them strip naturalized citizens of citizenship.)

Yes, this worries me too. I thought citizenship couldn’t be taken away once gained
