I'm just waiting for both parties to collapse around the world, radical socialists that want to be like Venezuela and turned on by George Soros money, and right wing racists that are starting to take over europe (and briefly in the US but they mostly got voted out) and commiting hate crimes and murder.

Then when both sides collapse, hopefully something better appears. Cause as it is, there is not one single political or government type that is working in the modern world. its all quickly becoming completely radical socialists or radical right wing parties, and very little in-between.
Nah what'll happen is the extremists will collapse and get replaced by people who'll make you miss the extremists

Well I'm hoping more soft tempered politicians take over in 2020 as far as the US goes. Right now its far right or far left for the most part. For democrats running. Biden as far as I saw and heard him while he was vice president was pretty moderate, I'd vote for him. He is really intelligent, soft spoken and seems like a great candidate. I'm not entirely sure all his political viewpoints, but he never seemed weird. And pelosi is the same, she seems pretty moderate. Though she isn't running for president, but she does control the house which is good.

My post above was slight exaggeration at current things, but it was really just that I think things should be...less so extreme as they currently are. When two sides become so crazy, they kind of end up blurring together. But I'd vote Biden, but he hasn't officially declared he is running yet as far as I know. He did great as vice president, so I don't see how he could do bad as actual president.

I don't really expect more soft tempered politicians (or more moderate, if you will) coming in 2020, not with Trump in office and the way things are right now.

As for Biden, his penchant for making gaffes might make things a little uncomfortable, but wouldn't be any worse than Trump I'm sure. Though if a campaign had to resort to using his gaffes to attack him (unless related to some policy or other), it means that they've run out of other things to attack him on.

Jenan moussa is interviewing a former British spy from Al-Queda and is taking questions on Twitter, if that's any of y'all's speed. I'd add a link if I wasn't on mobile 😓

A common misconception is that "fatwa" means "death sentence".

Quote
A fatwā in the Islamic faith is a nonbinding but authoritative legal opinion on matters of Islamic law (sharia) issued by a qualified jurist.

Mostly, fatwa deal with extremely boring and mundane legal and theological points. Being "granted a fatwa" only means you got some ruling in a court, which could be about literally anything.

However, remember they're non-binding so it could just be some respected legal expert gave you an opinion about something. If you asked whether it's ok to fart in the mosque, and got an authorative ruling, that is the definition of being granted a fatwa.

Ha! I remember that the first time round, too.

(BTW, waitress instead of waiter, steak (raw) instead of beef (rare), but otherwise as I said. 10 seconds of brilliance. Or a filler held back and then shoved into a show that was underrunning by 10 seconds, maybe. ;))

I assumed the fatwa in question would simply indicate that chucking wood was mustahabb for woodchucks.

turned on by George Soros money
I love this one.  One billionaire bankrolled democrats for two elections, the way multiple billionaires have bankrolled the Republican party for literally decades.  The sky is falling!  Democrats aren't the responsible adult in the room this one time.

I couldn't tell if it was sarcasm (or remember whether the poster was the kind to be serious about that).

You don't become a billionaire without baggage (or, in Trump's case, likely act like a billionaire), and I think some still rue his success against the Bank Of England during Black Wednesday, but at some point the "Jewish Nazi Secretly The Public Face Of The New World Order Illuminati Communists" image has to be seen to not hold up to any form of self-consistency.

But if he's bankrolling the opponents to your set of sainted sinners, then you're going to grab at every tittle-tattle you hear, regardless of the practical verisimilitude. Meh.

Just because the Republicans have gone hard right doesn't mean the Democrats have moved all that far left. Single-payer healthcare, social programs, and ecological protections are hardly radical.

If someone started saying we need to redistribute all wealth so everyone has exactly the same amount of money and put all Americans to work on collective farms, it wouldn't be far-right to say "maybe let's not," And it wouldn't be moderate to say, "Let's compromise and do that halfway."

Exactly, if anything we are finally getting a proper normal left. The yelling about the "far left" makes no sense.

Propaganda doesn't have to make sense, it just has to be loud enough to drown out argument.

Plus, the term 'socialism' still has enough potency to trigger the base even though it's potency has waned significantly from where it once was.

I find it "funny" (it isn't) that quite a few republicans won't vote for women or muslims. Shows what the party stands for really.

Though socialism kinda has a rather large reach of definitions as people define it differently, so the word itself isn't very accurate. For me, terrible socialist countries are UK which evolved into a literal dystopian police state that arrest people for words, and Venezuela which is pretty much collapsed. But there have been successful countries that consider themselves socialist. Japan for one though its mixed with Capitalism and Canada is doing great for itself. I can't say what other countries are doing good since dunno outside of that, but Australia isn't doing bad as far as I know. But I dunno what the overall political situation is over there.

But saying "socialist/socialism" is rather far reaching since a lot of people use it in a variety of ways and can mean a lot. So my posts before probably not entirely accurate with just saying "socialist". And political viewpoints/definitions can change over time. Plus there can be disagreements within the same party line.

Myself, I lean a bit left I suppose. As far as I know about Biden (as far as upcoming candidates go), my political stuff more lines with him and pelosi. I like Bernie as well for some of his things, though not 100% all of it.
