This. Imagine a race of people who make Russians and Swedes seem like warm, touchy-feely types (i.e. Italians and Greeks). Finns are the gold-standard of antisociality. What is it about warmer weather that makes people aggressively friendly, and what about colder weather makes people want to hide in a corner if it means avoiding talking to people?

Finland. The country that held back the USSR so well in the Winter War (despite having to concede, they came out of it much better than the Soviet Union, especially after it was revealed to have been kicked off by a Soviet false-flag attack to overcome non-aggression pacts) that it persuaded Hitler that he should launch Operation Barbarossa and the war in the East.

I think it was in Finland where the Red Army bombarded a position prior to attacking it, the advanced with heavy losses into the minefield of their own making. Many of the shells had landed in the snow too softly to detonate until the attackers drove into the (undefended?/barely manned?) position and set them off under their own forces.

There definitely was The White Death.
