How is the 50 states idea any fucking worse than the 3-6 megastates ideas being thrown around a couple pages back.

I'll even admit the idea of splitting the US up is a dumb idea on a number of levels, but how is forming new borders with new bureaucracy going to help at all?



I was semi serious about the moving idea though. But fuck your "moving costs". You get a bus ticket. A shipping crate with holes and some crackers in Hawaii's case.

Splitting up/divesting parts from superstates is all the rage! The Soviet Union did it. The European Union is working out what to do about it. South Sudan did it on a small scale, the Czechs and the Slovaks went their own ways (as, presumably, did the Os), Yugolslavia balkanised, Catalan wanted to, Eire did it ages ago, as did much of the rest of the British Empire, and the greater India even split with itselves (then the separate Pakistans split yet again), Scotland didn't quite want to but might yet still do now.

The question is whether the US wants to do something they are by far not the first to do! Maybe they just need to do it better! The best! What if all those borders were dug as canals, that aren't already rivers?!? (A very "Strong On Borders" policy to float, next time it's Infrastructure Week...)
