If we lose the vote, then antifa will violently change the law. Because we'll be electing antifa, and they change laws BY SHOOTING PEOPLE.

Or, if we're not electing antifa, then the antifa will simply notice that the left is rising, and take advantage of their newfound legislative power TO SHOOT PEOPLE. Because you shoot people when you're winning, not when you're losing.

Even if antifa are really this great boogeyman, this doesn't make any sense.
"Everyone who disagrees with me is a SCUMBAG MURDERER MEGA-NAZI (no relation to the perfectly charitable nazis in my cabinent, of course. These are actual, SOCIALIST NAZIS, which are SOCIALIST COMMUNISTS who want to TAKE YOUR MONEY and YOUR GUNS, unlike my personal nazi friends who love the free market, just ask them, they'll tell you, they love it, thus they can't possibly be actual nazis, just perfectly respectable white supremacists) and if they gain control of THE VILLAINOUS GOVERNMENT for more than A WEEK then AMERICA WILL BURN TO THE GROUND!"

And also calling democrats leftists.

This is probably the nastiest insult they've really suffered, without hyperbole.

What happens if they gain control for just a week or less?

...

The pedant in me wants to assert that "violence" is not a 100% parity with "Threat or use of physical force, or mortal peril."

What it REALLY is 100% parity with, is "Sudden, and especially unexpected or unwelcome change in status"

Eg, "The violence of the storm" does not mean that the storm blew into town carrying uzis, demanding all your money. It means that the storm changed from being a minor inconvenience to something significantly dangerous in a very short, sudden, and undesirable way.

In this context, the use of the word "violent" by the small handed idiot is actually correct.

But then, the "Really, what is he thinking? Most people are not literary pedants!" part of me kicks in, and wonders what the fuck he is thinking using that particular word here.

True, but then he goes and inserts antifa and says those are violent people, which contributes to the whole tone of it. Remove the antifa bit and you change the overall context and tone.

Could he have articulated it better or used a fancier word? Sure.

Warning a bunch of high-ranking zealots about the VIOLENT left seems like a pretty clear message to me.  Fortunately, 9/10 of the millions they influence understand that "Christian soldier" is, like, a metaphor?  Nowadays?  It just means to evangelize more.  Maybe lobby for more laws which are *only* supported by the Bible...  Nothing bad.  9/10 of them definitely understand that.

@Wierd

I agree. He chose a word that is correct in context but also incites a strong defensive response. If someone misinterprets it as literal violence it works in his favor for the purpose of rallying support against his enemies, and also he can pretend it was completely by accident.

It's both clumsily obvious and clever, like most of what he plans beforehand.

Also, as a Christian, yes, that is a clear metaphor. It has, however, certainly been twisted into literal meaning in the past. I'll take this opportunity to reiterate my own stance that Christianity was never meant to supplant secular government, and that the people who want to use it for that purpose are misguided at best and outright evil at worst.

Sorry to rain on the parade, but dark clouds hailing from foreign countries and drifting into the US are a real threat to the American way of life. The police are powerless to stop them thanks to the politicians in Washington blowing hot air, and instead of addressing the real issues they're blowing everything out of proportion and are busy outlawing words like "nimbus" so we can't even call the thunderheads for what they are.

It's a perfect storm. I'm not weatherist, I bless the rains down in Africa just like anybody, but that don't mean they get to come here and put us under pressure.

I don't think Trump intends there to be any meaning behind most of the things he says, other than to manipulate his base. The large majority of his most public actions seem calculated to increase his support among the groups that already support him, tinged with his own egoism and occasional mistakes.

This technique is clearly a loss-prevention strategy, and it's working by that account. His approval has remained astonishingly steady considering the number of crimes, controversies, and gaffes he's weathered, and that's because he's kept pleasing his base with his rhetoric. he doesn't  have any alternative; pivoting would only destroy support among his core and gain him next to nothing from his opponents.

A different president could of course open up to compromise and actually see net gains, but Trump burned every bridge he could in order to maximize his strategy.

Of course, he can't prevent all losses, and those losses aren't coming back to the fold.

In hilarious self ownership news, The American Conservative tried to argue that "if Trump and Carlson are racists what are people way more racist than them called?" only to get thousands of replies saying various versions of "also racists, you fucking mooks" and other such quips.

Welp, now people are being denied passports because... they were born by the border and are hispanic.

The hispanic part isn't explicitly stated, but I think we can agree that it's a big reason why this is happening.

There's something highly farcical about border patrol agents suddenly having their birth certificates questioned.
