Tell me more about this 'upcoming recession'. It doesn't seem like a recession is imminent, though things could certainly go south in a hurry.

If nothing else, what happens when this whole crazy ride ends and the donor class loses their spineless plutocrat President and Cabinet of billionaires?

You're not trying to imply a Democrat President would crash the economy, are you? :P

Tax cut bill earlier nonwithstanding, he is playing with fire with the trade war stuff as he's trying to fix a problem at the expense of the economy.

recessions are a pretty natural part of an economy, and people who know this shit waaaaay better than I do are calling another one in the next couple years.

It does not help that the Republicans have been busily striping away all the measures in place to prevent recession and the tax cuts mare going to make it a lot harder to find money when it happens.

I'd say the previous recession never really ended.

It did, but only for the 1%.

I think we have a ways further to fall, and the next recession will likely precipitate more semi-permanent declines in real wages, regular employment, and worker wealth accumulation. With the consolidation spree still ongoing, consumer debt levels growing, deregulation coming back in style, and wages as anemic as they are, it's even starting to give off "Great Depression: Electric Boogaloo" vibes, but of course it's hard to see the sunshine for the shit these days and nobody can really say.

You'd have to find some other incredibly popular, incredibly lucrative, illegal industry to force your way into. So... heroin, probably.

Or journalism, by then.

I'ma gonna kit my car out with a dang-fast, high-torque engine, and build into its frame various secret compartments within which I can hide copies of The Guardian, to get it across state lines!

(The horn will play the tune from John Craven's Newsround, and I'll paint the Blue Peter ship on the roof, just to make it a really British thing...)

Trumps being awfully friendly sounding to Iran now. Is he trying to repeat his thing with North Korea with them? Threaten to annihilate you one day, then a week later saying "meh, I'm willing to meet with them whenever, no pre-conditions".

Maybe, but Iran isn't craving for attention and international credibility like Kim Jong-Un was. Of course though, Pompeo hours later went and said there are preconditions, so...

He could probably meet Rouhani on the sidelines of the next UN assembly, it'd be the least problematic as far as political optics go for the both of them.

Trump was feeling lonely and wanted his buddy Bolton to come talk to him some more.
