The UK staying out of the euro did not stop the creation of the euro,
And if we Leave-Leave and then find out we don't have good enough friends on the outside (I mean apart from "America First" Trump who will
definitely not take advantage of our new position to insist we bend over and take the anal pounding trade-deal
he wants to give us, right?) and ask to re-enter, the price for that will be to lose the Pound. "Thanks UKIP!".
Embedded inside, we have moderated things that we don't like, had
many personal exceptions implemented. But some people grumbled that we weren't getting
extra-extra-special treatment, like
at least 14/28
ths of the say, so, rather than the maybe greater than 4/28
ths (which would be our right by population contribution). And because 23% of the population voted Leave and 'only' 21% of them voted Remain, apparently we are of one mind, rather than less than half a mind wanting
something and barely half of
that mind wants out, and most likely even that split is due to spurious claims instantly reneged upon.
¹ And didn't like immigrants (the non-European ones, who are somehow Europe's fault).
EU external -> Schengen Area -> Calais -> Dover -> Into yer jerbs
Crock o shite, though. If it was
that easy to take that last step, how on Earth did The Jungle form? And how come it formed disproportionately of resourceful young men (who would
rightfully put a lot of homegrown 'workers' to shame) if it was
sooo easy for any old random asylum seeker to move across the intervening continent?
And the ones heading here were doing so because of our reputation as a place to be. Well, easiest way to deal with that is to make us an unfriendly and uninviting place that doesn't even treat its
own people with respect. Oh, look. That's what's happening. And there are 'hardly' any disadvantages in doing that(!)
I believe he heard the argument that we pay the price importing from out international trade partners whilst we're within the EU and would be able to lower them outside and applied it erroneously to EU-UK trade.
I
know he got it wrong that way. Because he was being told that by people who would also lie to him using buses.
Also remind him Westminster's far more likely to decommission his antique gun than Brussels is, Brussels is far more concerned with Soviet gunblyat flying all over yurop
It's almost like you have the same opinion as me. Which shows how far gone he is. Mind you, this likely also means he (and you?) doesn't want Westminster to choose the best of a set of not-good exit deals or a worse-than-the-average no-deal route.
But this isn't a Europe thread, and I'd
love to say that I've missed our little opposition of opinions since that last one got decomissioned, but to be honest that'd be a lie. The occasional diversion like this is more than enough for me so don't bother setting up a new current one on my behalf. I'm 'happily' watching barely anybody getting more than half of what they want from this process, and almost a certainty that most people will get a lot less, outweighed by all the things they get that they expressly
didn't want (no more key subsidies, harder trade to
everywhere, jobs gone quicker than a Harley-Davidson in a SpaceX Dragon, standing lost in the world, parliament hobbled and removed of its centuries-long list of checks and balances to
allow the supposed return of the mythical sovereignty to the 20-odd% of the 'people', etc). And that's before we get so Involuntarily-Isolationist that we start having to think about giving away our hard-won 'independence' to get back in a
more junior partnership than before, in one of
less bad ultimate scenarios. Where elsewhere-in-the-world events (that don't even care about us any more) don't make it an entirely moot point
