So much media bashing, he must really be bothered by the news reports about him.

Though to be fair, CNN at least has been extremely biased against him lately.

That'd be mostly Cilizza, the editor-at-large giving that appearance. He's even set up his own rather opiniated series. Outside of that though, CNN hasn't been particularily biased, no more than a center-left ish way.

If you want extremely biased, look at Huffington post. They do have a great poll aggregator come election time though.

"If we have to close down our government, we're building that wall."

So much for averting a shutdown.

It's the debt ceiling that I'd be worried about, not the government shutdown. Not passing the budget and getting a government shutdown just makes us look bad, not raising the debt ceiling would be like taking an asteroid strike to our and the global economy.

The problem is that if the government is shut down, they can't raise the debt ceiling.

Aren't both deadlines set to happen on the same day, if not the same week? I know the debt ceiling deadline is either late September or early October, but I don't know if they've pinned down the absolute date that they absolutely must get it done by.

edit: Did Trump just kill the NAFTA negotiation thing by saying "I don't think we can get a deal"?

Just in the last week I've heard Don Lemon, Anderson Cooper, and Wolf Blitzer each give lengthy speeches detailing all of the negative things about Trump since the election. CNN clearly has an agenda against him that goes well beyond fair and unbiased reporting.

I'll admit that they have gotten harsher on Trump, especially after Charlottesville.

Yep, he sabotaged the NAFTA talks by saying "We'll probably just pull out of it anyway", no subtlety, at all.

Looks like police have had to resort to gas-canisters against the anti-Trump crowds who are quickly turning violent outside his rally.

Yeah, CNN suddenly turned to where the police were deploying various smoke canisters. Dunno how it started.

By this, do you mean the rally itself (and the aftermath) or Trump's increasingly untenable tirades against everyone not enthusiastically flattering his ego? Because the rally itself was closer to a Two Minutes' Hate than a stump speech. Between this, Bannon's departure, and his shouting profanity at McConnell, I don't think you will have to wait long for Trump to do something flashy, spiteful, and stupid just to prove his advisors don't rule him and take back control of the news cycle. There are two things he knows he can do unilaterally and on a whim, requiring no more time than his attention span can tolerate: he can pardon people and he can launch nuclear missiles.

Personally, I think if Trump is going to make CNN his mortal enemy, the fact that they eventually got around to responding in kind isn't really surprising. I mean he's declared on them, their organization, and their entire profession as everything that is wrong with this country; I'm frankly surprised they don't fire back more often; if the most powerful man in the world spends all the day bashing you, neutrality sort of becomes impossible.

I can't wait for this to blow up. :P
Quoting this for future reference.

Absolutely wrong, there is a third: He can tweet like a metaphorical and/or literal maniac.

Still don't get why Trump doesn't speak out against neo nazis.
Do you think he realizes that they want to put his son in law, and his grandchildren into the gas chambers (and his daughter too ofcourse, for marrying a jew)?

Eh, them and allies were a substantial part of why he's in office, now. Why he hasn't hardballed the nazis or scum that's hand in hand with 'em is because he's to all appearances intentionally pandering to them. He doesn't care if they want to murder his grandchildren if it means he's in office next month, more likely than not.

Man, I'm pretty sure I don't want to know what sort of roles the guy's playing if they've decided "spicy and burns the eyes" is a good descriptor for their nutsack. If that's a porno name it's a rather unfortunate one.

Explanation A. Trump is a moron who can't tell the difference between the words of rhetoric and the implications of rhetoric.

Explanation B. Trump isn't appealing to neo-nazis per se. He's not trying to court people who march with the NSM or the KKK, they're too small of a demographic. He's trying to court the millions of people who think slavery had redeemable elements, or that America is inherently superior to other nations, or who think that communism is more despicable than fascism, or especially those who are incensed by leftist protestors and dream of being attacked by them so they'll have an excuse to gun and/or drive them down. That's not a majority group, or even a particularly large minority, but it is a statistically significant one and a part of Trump's loyal base.

Most of those folks would give "nazis and antifa are two sides of the same extremist coin" a fair shake.

I've also mentioned this before, but apparently a lot of modern neo-nazis and associated nutjobs have taken extreme mental gymnastics to the reality of Judaism vs its appearance in fascist rhetoric. Under this amazingly transparent re-framing, there are two groups that constitute the Jews: "Hebrew" people, who are just normal folk and used as a smokescreen, and "actual Jews", who are the shadowy globalist conspirators.

This proves the long-suspected hypothesis that reframing may be used to justify literally anything, and that indeed there is no verifiable difference between truth and lies in the practice of human communication.

The economist got a nice, succint write-up of the Trump Afghanistan strategy and how it changes from Obama's. I had forgotten how harmstrung US troops in Afghanistan were over the last years (forbidden to embed with the troops they were supposed to train among other things).

To me it seems that Mattis and McMaster largely convinced Trump to let them run the show. Troop numbers will raise 50%, air power will be more available to troops on the ground (so if Iraq is any guide, expect faster progress and more civilian casualties).

Quick victory or anything like that is not going to happen, but we're likely to see progress again the Talibans in terms of territory under control. If that buys time and political capital for Ghani it might actually make things better.
