Well, you learn something new every day. Good to know that there is literally nothing redeeming about them whatsoever.

Well the point is that the people who were posting on 4chan back in 2008 may or may not be who is posting now. they're probably at least 90% different people. Some memes start as irony/sarcasm but then you get a new generation who aren't actually sarcastic. e.g. if you post a bunch of "cripples suck" memes it's clearly meant to be ironic, but eventually your site is full of actual cripple-haters. That's sort of what I think happened to 4chan.

Note that 2chan, which is the Japanese site which inspired 4chan isn't the clusterfuck that 4chan is. Pedobear is a good example of that. In 2chan, he was just "kuma" (bear) and he appears in troll threads saying "kuma kuma!". That's because "trolling" originally meant a type of fishing where you drag lures behind a boat - e.g. lazy "fishing" for a response. The term "trolling" in Japanese is just "fishing", and bears eat fish, hence Kuma is a cute bear who turns up when trolls are around hoping to get some of the fish. It was 4chan who turned the cute innocent simple-minded Kuma into a sinister pedophile.

While the transcript doesn't give the tone or context of what he said, the words themselves, like say, if you sent it in a cable, are a pretty clear threat.

I have no idea whether he generally used threats a lot in hostile negotiations in Real Estate, but in Real Estate, the person you're dealing with doesn't usually have an entire army at his command.

I wonder if Trump even realizes that sending armed forces at someone without permission for being there would be considered an act of war?....

There's been no Sabre-rattling. There has been Jian rattling however.

So remember that China sabre-rattling?

It's entirely possible that he takes on a different tone with China. Their position hasn't changed recently since they last said something (which was like, a week ago) and nothing's changed over there AFAIK.

There's been no Sabre-rattling. There has been Jian rattling however.

CNN talking about how Trump is staging a coup with big boy

I love this language. Trump won against their candidate democratically and consolidated all his political capital but they act like he has usurped them, that they are the legitimate rulers of the USA
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Gee I wonder how the press convinced themselves of that, they only report the best fake news

Regarding Mexico war threats:
Quote
"You have a bunch of bad hombres down there," Trump told Pena Nieto, according to the excerpt seen by the AP. "You aren't doing enough to stop them. I think your military is scared. Our military isn't, so I just might send them down to take care of it."
A person with access to the official transcript of the phone call provided an excerpt to The Associated Press. The person gave it on condition of anonymity because the administration did not make the details of the call public.
The Mexican website, Aristegui Noticias, on Tuesday published a similar account of phone call, based on the reporting of journalist Dolia Estevez. The report described Trump as humiliating Pena Nieto in a confrontational conversation.
Mexico's foreign relations department denied that account, saying it "is based on absolute falsehoods," and later said the statement also applied to the excerpt provided to AP.
"The assertions that you make about said conversation do not correspond to the reality of it," the statement said. "The tone was constructive and it was agreed by the presidents to continue working and that the teams will continue to meet frequently to construct an agreement that is positive for Mexico and for the United States."

And again:
Quote
Estevez said that while both the White House and the Mexican president have released information about the call, both sides characterized it as a "friendly" conversation and neither disclosed what was said.
So literally trusting the word of god knows who against the word of both govs using sources no one has to rush to the conclusion that WWIII is beginning; likewise what is so horrendous about crushing the cartels? Tens of thousands dead, tens of thousands disappearing, millions of lives ruined, there are only two ways to stop the cartels, to go after their demand or go after them. Americans are full dude weed lmao and won't stop buying drugs, therefore the only way to stop them is through force. However this cannot ever be fully realized because the Mexican government is struggling with the sheer corruption and the reduced availability of loyal soldiers and policemen, despite their best efforts the cartels grow more powerful.

Well the point is that the people who were posting on 4chan back in 2008 may or may not be who is posting now.
No, the point is that at any one point there are not the same people posting ever

Some memes start as irony/sarcasm but then you get a new generation who aren't actually sarcastic.
This is a different phenomenon; yesterday's irony is tomorrow's sincerity. This is because people use irony and sarcasm to test out the waters for what is socially acceptable, if rejected, they were just being sarcastic or ironic, if not, move onto consolidation. *EDIT, online communities are beholden to what you say to different degrees, depending on the medium. Ones slow to change and easiest consolidated are most affected

e.g. if you post a bunch of "cripples suck" memes it's clearly meant to be ironic, but eventually your site is full of actual cripple-haters. That's sort of what I think happened to 4chan.
Not at all for 4chan, it just grew more diluted over time

It was 4chan who turned the cute innocent simple-minded Kuma into a sinister pedophile.

Certainly Clinton should not have given them so much power, the primordial rule of the internet is porn, the second primordial rule of the internet is to not feed the troll - a lesson lost in time.

That's literally why she lost.  OLD LADY YELLS AT FROG is an election loser, no matter how you look at it and no matter how you slice it.

Here's one for your homecountry Reelya.

Transcript of article for those that don't want to bother with paywall:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'll bet that Trumbulls first thought after the call was 'Is this guy crazy???' and all of this really does not bode well going forward.

I wonder when we'll see transcripts of the talk that he had with Japan and Germany? Those ought to be enlightening, and I mean that ironically.

Although it does fortunately serve as a rather interesting experiment in what happens when a world leader feeds the trolls. Yelling At Frogs is well gud

It's amazing how hostile he is in fact to governments he should be allied with. The ruling party in Australia are anti-immigrant pro-business types, who also include the Christian Right and rural types in their coalition. Yeah, but Trump snubs them and only has glowing words for Duterte and Putin ... which is worrying. Center-right isn't right enough for him. Basically that's the biggest warning sign: that Trump isn't in fact making friends with the governments that he should be friends with, given his ideological stances.

And ya know why that probably is? Australia's ruling Liberal Party are center-right but far less dysfunctional than the Republicans. They represent the more moderate old-style economic conservatism (the Liberal name derives from the European tradition of economic liberalism) and are far better on social issues than the Republicans. It's parties such as that - moderate conservatives - who are the bigger threat to Trump's radical right leanings than are leftists. The scene in "Life of Brian" where the various Jewish rebel groups are more intent on killing each other than fighting the Romans details this sort of in-fighting among supposed ideological allies.

Ok time for breaking my powers of making terrible things come true.

You know what I'd love? For the international community to just embargo the heck out of the USA in response to Trump.

It isn't going to happen due to how dependent most of the world is on the US economy, but it sure would be interesting to see Trump's "I can push anyone I want around" and "Please trump pee on us! we need your attention!" dynamic to be broken up.

Hey you, the American people, voted for Trump. Thus you, the American people, are obligated to support him in all his endeavors.

Have some patriotism already :P (I am being slightly sarcastic here)

wut
Are progressives so left-wing that the liberal party is right lmao.
Oh shit, what if we're so right-wing that the liberal party is left-wing? Fucking perspective man, this relativity is crazy
"rural types, the Christian Right" ahahaha, I like that. Though one thing that should be certain by now is that Trump does not ally with neoliberals, there is nothing they have in common

That's the sanitized version obviously.
Reuters go so far to avoid bias or spreading unfounded allegations that they don't even refer to terrorist attacks as "terrorist" without attribution to some figure, he who grows weary of reuters grows weary of life

I don't know where the Right and Left are on the scale in Australia compared to the US and in Europe though.
