Yeah, I'd rather sexuality wasn't on the forms. The rationale, I believe, is to track it for counter-prejudice systems. Which is to say, assuming society has a level of prejudice that results in people being denied jobs they should have. By requiring a level of hiring of the prejudiced-against parties, it counter-balances that prejudice until such time as the prejudice is effectively removed from society and so restores the balance of employees you'd see without that prejudice. Not a perfect system, but I'm pretty sure that's the logic.

Except most the 'liberal stuff' seems to be mostly reacting to when the issue gets forced. "I want to get married to the person I love", "Can't. Both of you have cocks.", that sort of thing.

Or combating systemic prejudice, when a system is weighted against specific parties based on arbitrary grounds like sexuality. When the police are much faster to shoot a black person to a white one, for example. The issue is being forced by the nature of that system, even if not explicitly and openly stated by the police in question.

Why are you bringing up your sexual preferences(or lack thereof) in conversation if you don't want to talk about your masturbatory habits(or lack thereof)? It seems to me like a valid line of inquiry in response to the established topic.
But then, I honestly seem to be incapable of comprehending the fundamentals of casual conversation in general, so wtf do I know...

I think most liberals would want to define and push for laws that prevent the real and serious discrimination of Transgender/Transexual people, but don't really consider whether or not to include "dragonpeople". Like, there's a pretty big difference between the two but if we have to include the one to include the other because legal terminology is hard, that's better than the alternative. it's like how Gay Marriage isn't actually a slippery-slope to bestiality, despite what some conservative types would claim. Legal wording would perhaps be trickier to explicitly exclude I guess, and don't really want to throw out the baby with the bathwater and all that.

Why are you bringing up your sexual preferences(or lack thereof) in conversation if you don't want to talk about your masturbatory habits(or lack thereof)?

Well if someone asks you a question where the natural response is "I'm not really that interest in sex" as a natural part of the sharing and bonding process of getting to know another human being, the continuation of the conversation isn't "Do you masturbate?" any more than "Hey, you think she's pretty?" would be followed by "So do you watch porn with women like her in it?".

Trump orders review that could relax Dodd-Frank bank rules
Someone pick up and we talk about Trump again, please? :)

Quote
He signed an executive order to review the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial regulations, which some people on Wall Street say are overly-restrictive.
The law was brought in after the 2008-09 financial crisis with the aim of avoiding another financial meltdown.
"Dodd-Frank is a disaster," Mr Trump said earlier this week.
He added: "We're going to be doing a big number on Dodd-Frank."
Mr Trump made it a campaign pledge to repeal and replace the Dodd-Frank act, which also created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

On the 'dress like a woman' thing, no surprise, and he seems to be pushing the same 'dress like I want you to' on the guys as well, with the exception of Bannon, so, equal opportunity offender.

Dodd frank thing: Yeah, start the countdown for how many days until the banks do something to screw things up. He's also said that one reason why he wants it is because 'his rich friends have trouble getting loans', which screams conflict of interest right there.

So, I believe this thread was locked for it, but Trump's presidency has made a new record.  Fastest to 51% disapproval. To be clear about this, this does not mean that he has 49% approval, no.  Most polls have him hovering between 45%-41% approval.  As of a week ago Fox News had him at 55% disapproval 42% approval.

This hilarious and frightening because it should be almost literally impossible.  Trump is in the honeymoon period, historically a president's approval goes UP immediately after they are elected.

Btw, here's a little noticed bombshell in the immigration order that the media somehow missed in all of its frenzy:  http://www.politico.com/agenda/story/2017/02/trump-vetting-executive-order-immigration-000293

The part that is raising alarm bells is the 'creating an uniform screening standard and procedure for everybody that wishes to enter the US. Given how literally lawyers and bureaucrats usually take legal stuff, it's so broad that in its current form, that could mean the same vetting and procedures for everybody from tourists to diplomats.

Most likely it's just the result of it not being vetted first and the poor execution of everything, but still....

@enigmatichat: I don't think that's what the lock a while ago was over. Not going to rehash the reasons or the event though.

I mean, the EO was so poorly thought out it included a lot of people  it really shouldn't have. Like, if Trump wanted to keep to the word is his pledges without shitting on everything he could have just suspended new visas and cancel any future arrivals of not-already-agreed-upon refugees. It'd still draw ire, but it would have been less of a complete clusterfuck whilst still appealing his more 'hardcore' support base.

Most people don't wake up married to a cuthuloid horror in Vegas either.

Well I guess that'd be null-and-void under bestiality laws? ...How would marriage to a sentient non-human being work? Like, say the Lizard People conspiracy is real and you discovered your partner was one of them. Would the marriage end? I guess if nothing else the marriage would have been done via deception and false pretenses so could probably be annulled? Would we need to adjust the law to allow non-human sentients? How would that even be defined? ...When we discover the Green Skinned Space Aliens there's gonna be a lot of busy lawyers, I guess.

I have no idea why the lock happened and I wasn't trying to imply anything about it.

Lol. In response to the 'Netherlands second' video I linked a week ago, which got over 74 million hits now, comedians from 11 countries have promised to make a similar video for their country.
So far there's 6 more:

Netherlands 2nd https://youtu.be/j-xxis7hDOE

Germany 2nd https://youtu.be/WcH9eWBs9fw

Denmark 2nd https://youtu.be/ryppmnDbqJY

Belgium 2nd https://youtu.be/fD3-mjT9_Ds

Switzerland 2nd https://youtu.be/reuJ8yVCgSM

Lithauania 2nd https://youtu.be/piri8VeFZVw

Portugal 2nd https://youtu.be/mcehg0LG5J4

You know, I'm curious what a Russian one of these would be like...

Depends on if we classify the non-human sapients as people or not legally, which could be something of an issue. Most laws I've read refer to 'persons' or 'individuals' and the like rather than to 'humans', so if they get counted as people they could be included under most laws that already exist in some way or another, but if they don't get considered people I'm not sure if they would be considered animals or a nebulous category not considered in law. Suppose it would depend on the way the highest level of court in any given country ruled on the matter if it arose.

Personally I'd probably just declare a sapient non-human species to be legally equivalent with humans unless there was some sort of major issue that made that impractical, like them being a hive mind that only actually exists under certain conditions or having a praying mantis or spider style cannibalistic component in most instances of mating. It'd be kind of awkward to have to arrest every female that successfully mated for eating their mates head each time they went into season.

Spicer took a "Trumble" trying to get the name straight again. Note, this is a new press briefing, new mistakes.

Quote
“They did have a very productive and engaging meeting. We have a tremendous amount of respect for the people of Australia, for Prime Minister Trumble ...

Mr Spicer also made a mistake when he said that Reince Priebus and Steve Bannon had met with the “prime minister”, before being corrected by the media who told him they had met with Joe Hockey.

Joe Hockey is a conservative, and Turnbull's foreign minister. I mean, seriously this, Australia is an English speaking nation with English names, and all names in this case are in fact composed of basic English words that an elementary school child could spell. "Turn" "Bull", "Hockey". We're not really getting into the tricky shit here.

Quote
He said Mr Trump had “immense respect” for the Prime Minister.

It's not an unusual name by the standards of the English language.
