Speaking thereof, is it Border Patrol or Homeland Security that gets to consider all land 100 miles from the border to be within their jurisdiction, and thereafter includes all airports as part of the border?

ICE doesn't believe in restrictions to its jurisdiction.

The problem isn't that the word "militia" has been replaced by organization names like "Army Reserve" and "National Guard", but that the word "militia" has been claimed by "poorly regulated" people who want someone to authorize them to shoot people. In history, these people would be called mercenaries or bandits.

What do you call armed dudes who hang out along the highway and pull people over to search their cars and take their money and are allowed to kill them if they resist?

Remember those are the guys who will be enforcing any laws we make.
That is a 10th amendment activity and there have been problems with it but compare them to the guys-with-assault-guns militia... who would you prefer to pull you over? How about not on a highway where there may be no witnesses?

Inflation is up by 8.6%, highest since 1981 apparently.

(Up by that %, or up by that many percentage points? The difference between the two matters... ;) )

Probably referring to this.

Although I'm unfamiliar with monthly inflation rates.

Actually, it goes by the year ending in that month, as found below (dunno if below link will work next month):
https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/current-inflation-rates/

Sorta misleading (what a shock), as people (like me) are likely to think prices rose 8.6% since April 2022, instead of since May 2021.
But still scary, just not quite as bad.  Like, we're still not Germany post-WWI

March is 8.5% (which is hidden due to the chart only labelling the months quarterly)

It's pretty imbalanced too, which doesn't help. Gas prices have gone up 20% in the last two months alone, for example. Airfare is on track for nearly yearly 40% inflation. Core CPI is roughly 6%, I believe?

Either way it's a mess, but it's a global mess and not just the US.

I like how the Government removed the tax on gas.
This is sarcasm, since the Gas Companies just pocketed the tax money.

I changed my mind on gun rights a bit. I still don't support banning guns wholesale, but there should be way more regulations than now.

Sinply ban guns retail and it'll have a knock-on effect on that market for guns wholesale!

Why doesn't the US just nationalize all the gas corporations? Why is such a critical strategic resource left in the hands of private citizens, who have the intent of maximizing profits for their own well-being, over everyone else?

I mean there are reasons, but the only practical one in effect over here is that the government is way less likely to give you kickbacks for supporting the industry over public interest.
