I would again point out that the statistics strongly indicate that people who get more than 2 abortions, are being forced to procreate, either from a spouse or other romantic partner, or through a forced relationship with an abuser, such as a sex trafficker.

Being forced to procreate then is not entirely a false equivalence, when taken with "denial of abortion services"

That statistic was rather central to my hot-take a week ago.

I don't think that is evidence of forced procreation - I think that's evidence of forced sexual intercourse. Unless that really correlates with men who really are trying to sire as many children as they physically can?

This has to be one of the most terrifying things. To be raped and then have the offspring of your assaulter growing inside you, regardless of whether the procreation was intended or not, it’s... I’d do superlatives but they don’t express how much I hate the thought.

That's false equivalence. Anti abortion laws don't "force" you to procreate; the procreative act has already occurred.

So what? We're not talking about the legality of birth control and sex itself. We're talking about the legality of abortions. Being forced to carry the fetus to term.

It's only a false equivalence when you change it from talking about forcing people to carry pregnancies to... forcing people to procreate, which is not the same.

Yes and I agree women shouldn't be forced to carry to term. I think society should be structured to encourage and support women to carry to term.  Anti-abortion laws are demonstrably the wrong approach to establishing such a society.

Anyway, so... how 'bout that inflation?  Should the Federal Reserve stop doling out free money, and actually start increasing interest rates?

As you demonstrated earlier, you are on the right side of this.

Well.  Money only exists relative to bread.  So I'm worried that bread might become very expensive.

GALLUP MORAL ACCEPTABILITY POLL 2021 HAS COME TO

As per my post last year, the results by year will be '14, '17, '20, and now '21 with the change between them in parentheses. A few questions from last year were not continued. Please note that the new question on gender is using Gallup's own wording, which I find somewhat ambiguous. The wording of the question on polygamy remains the same as last year, in spite of Gallup itself publishing an article questioning it.

Percentage saying the following are morally acceptable:

Birth Control: 90%, 91%, 90%, 90% (+0%)
Alcohol Use: - , -, 86%, - (-)
Divorce: 69%, 73%, 77%, 79% (+10%)
Sex, Unmarried: 66%, 69%, 73%, 73% (+7%)
Marijuana Use: -, -, 70%, - (-)
Sex, Gay: 58%, 63%, 66%, 69% (+11%)
Gambling: -, 65%, 71%, 72%, 68% (+3%)
Children Outside Of Marriage: 58%, 62%, 66%, 67% (+9%)
Embryonic Stem Cell Research: 65%, 61%, 66%, 64%  (-1%)
Death Penalty: 60%, 58%, 54%, 55% (-5%)
Animal Fur Clothing: 58%, 57%, 54%, 55% (-3%)
Doctor-Assisted Suicide: 52%, 57%, 51%, 54% (+2%)
Animal Medical Testing: -, 51%, 56%, 52% (+1%)
Abortion: 42%, 43%, 44%, 47% (+5%)
Gender Change: -, -, -, 46% (-)
Sex, Between Teenagers: 30%, 36%, 38%, 43% (+13%)
Pornography: 33%, 36%, 36%, 40% (+7%)
Cloning Animals: 34%, 32%, 34%, 36% (+2%)
Polygamy: 14%, 17%, 20%, 20% (+6%)
Suicide: 19%, 18%, 18%, 19% (+0%)
Cloning Humans: 13%, 14%, 12%, 13% (+0%)
Extramarital Affairs: 7%, 9%, 9%, 10% (+3%)

Last year, I predicted the beatings would continue vis-a-vis the religious right and sexual morality, and even this quickly the bruising shows. Gay sex, abortion, divorce, having children outside of marriage, pornography, and even sex between teenagers have shown more increases than almost everything else on this list. Something something boomerfall, you get the idea.

The fall in the death penalty appears to have leveled off. Approval of animal medical testing has fallen to its previous number.

Polygamy has kept its hard-won few points of approval. As mentioned above, abortion has continued its steady increase in approval.

When it comes to differences between libs and conservatives, the new metric on changing gender unbelievably has managed to edge out abortion by a single point, representing a 55% difference between the groups. Ironically, liberals and conservatives have the same most hated and most approved of issues. Both most hate extramarital affairs (6% for conservatives, 18% for liberals) and most approve of birth control (83% for conservatives, 95% for liberals).

These are always interesting, thanks MSH.

Was the issue with polygamy wording last year something about the difference between polygamy and polyamory? It may be mostly semantic to other people, but I would be okay with the latter but not with the first, because of historical and cultural context. I think there's a relevant difference to be made.

Very surprised they didn't ask about marijuana again, to me it still seems very relevant to our times. Was it too high? ;)

And of course it's always fun to see unfaithfulness so across-the-board reviled. There's hope for humanity yet!

Oh hey, new federal holiday. Juneteenth has official federal recognition, now. Slid through congress remarkably quickly, too, with all of 14 asshats voting against it (no prizes for guessing the political alignment of 'em), all in the house.

I was surprised to learn that 2 states still don't recognize it (North and South Dakota, which aren't surprising). Texas was the cause of it, and made it a state holiday in 1980. Although they have been referring to it as "Confederate Heroes Day."

So this thing happened: In secret recording, Florida Republican threatens to send Russian-Ukrainian ‘hit squad’ after rival.

"I'm not just blowing smoke here I'm fucking being deadass serious"

Oh and yeah that's his republican, same-party, colleague-rival he's talking about there.

It sounds like bullshit. Guy also makes claims of getting money from Free Masons and blah blah blah.....when someone makes a threat and follows up with "I'm dead serious", about half the time they're lying. Actual threats don't need reinforcement.

Basically anyone powerful enough to have hit squads on command doesn't threaten a political activist as a proxy for their opponent.
