Yeah, when I got that I couldn't help thinking how much it sounded like an infomercial: "Fast and direct economic assistance to you!"

Note, the "signed" checks were only sent to those who couldn't recieve their thing electronically. Those people are also likely to be disconnected to a majority of news, and are probably swayed by seeing a name on their check.
The quote marks are particularly appropriate. I'm actually looking at one of the things right now*, and while the shitgibbon's name is on it ("Economic Impact Payment" on one line, the fucker's name on a second), his signature isn't. The thing's signed by some treasury critter, same as the tax refund one.

*I couldn't be arsed to hunt up my banking info when I was doing taxes, so I got checks, and haven't gotten around to actually depositing them yet because going to the bank isn't exactly my highest priority right now.

He tried to get them signed by himself and was told that wasn't legal, so settled for what you're looking at.

There was actually a third method that first got interpreted as a scam -- some people (including me) got a debit card with the balance of the payment on it. And some instructions to activate the card and all that.

Came in a pretty sketchy letter that I had to give a close look to. IRS had to issue a notice about it to quiet the scam concerns.

As to why they did this, heck if I know - probably some contractor got a cushy payment out of it.

I got the dumb letter a week or two after that, if I recall right.

I have direct deposit on my bank accounts, and pay my income taxes with efile and echecks.   The IRS has the relevant information to have sent mine via an electronic deposit.

They chose not to.  I got a paper one.  I was surprised by this, but that is indeed the case.

My real suspicion?  I make <30k a year.  That means I am in the "Likely to be swayed by stupid shit, because poor an uneducated" stereotype demographic, and these jokers are stupid enough to think it would work on me.

Time to conduct one of those hypnotic unconscious bias tests on wierd to see if his lizard brain has been secretly converted to Trumpism. The fix is in boys.

Many Republicans have distanced themselves from Trump's call for postponed elections.
Even Lindsay Graham said it was not a good idea.
One of Trump's closest allies, Steven Calabresi, said he was shocked, called Trump's tweet about it fascist, and called for immediate impeachment in the New York Times.

Could it be that the sinking ship throws its chief rat over the side?

(Probably not. They may get back the "Republicans For Biden" crowd if they effectively deselect him at the cut-down formal procedings, and replace with (in their best case scenario) an actual halfway-sane candidate plucked out of the blue red, but I imagine that it would play merry hell with the per-state registrations and Q-tip types would probably organise enough write-in continuation of Trump support to severely spoil their man(/woman).  Still, someone could probably conceive of a reasonable and/or out-of-the-box scenario surrounding this central tenet, if only for a future Alternative History tale...)

"Unable to withdraw money from the ATM" implies some sort of banking collapse - not that people have no money, but that they're going to lose it because the institution holding it will fold. The more clear way to phrase this is "Will no longer have money to make ends meet."

^ That exactly.

Also, a banking collapse happens when people withdraw more money than the bank has in cash reserves, not when people no longer have money.  The banking system can handle it just fine if you have a balance of zero.  Note I mean the system here - the economy and society as a whole has trouble if too many people have no accounts. (And by no accounts I mean no money, not just that they don't choose to put it in a bank.)

I too interpreted that first as "there's a technical failure or a restriction on the devices used to withdraw money" and I think that's the most clear interpretation.

We need some funny politics for a change

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2020-07-29/florida-congressional-candidate-warns-of-internet-anime-porn-like-dragon-ball-z/.162354

Quote
Florida congressional candidate KW Miller warned his nearly 40,000 Twitter followers of the "great deal of anime porn" that exists on the internet. The Independent party candidate for Florida's 18th district pointed to Akira Toriyama and Toei Animation's Dragon Ball Z as "one of the top issues."

Quote
Dragon Ball Z is one of the top issues here.

They are sexualizing cartoon characters to push a depraved agenda on our kids.

What’s next? Where will it end?

DBZ latest craze corrupting America's youth - discuss.

EDIT: A couple things in that article triggered my radar, and sure enough he's a Qanon.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K.W._Miller

Quote
On July 7, Miller claimed on Twitter that the South Korean boy-band, BTS, were socialists, giving the backronym of their initials as "Big Time Socialists." He also stated the K-pop was "foreign propaganda" that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez used to conspire with Koreans to undermine president Donald Trump and sabotage his rally in Tulsa. He also alleged that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un knew about the conspiracy and wished that K-pop fans be tried for treason in court.

Well, if they go back in time to the 80s, and say "Dragon Ball", then I might agree.

Well.. It *IS* typically against hyper-privileged white women with asymmetric bob hairdos...

I guess that is sorta an ethnic thing. Maybe.
