Trump just announced a new National Emergency, for the coronavirus.

He and his cronies were very emphatic that they do not want anybody to get tested for the virus, unless they are already very sick. At that point they will have to follow a complicated flowchart to get a positive internet diagnosis and then locate an approved testing center where they can be swabbed and get their results in 4-6 weeks.

It's really alarming just how little this administration understands.

Hey, they got their ~9% jump in stocks right before close due to the timing of the conference. Mission accomplished (for the next 48 hours).

Trump said the next 8 weeks are critical. He really thinks he's got 8 weeks to bring this under control? Almost 600 new confirmed cases just today in the USA (double the new amount from the previous days) and there are still hours to go until midnight West Coast time.

It's on track for 10,000 confirmed cases by next weekend. And if they boost the testing that number will go up much faster. (EDIT: actually did the math, it should be around 14000 by next weekend - the number is consistently going up by a factor of about 1.33 per day)

To give put that in perspective, current US numbers are where Italy (currently, 15000 cases) was way, way back on March 3rd, and where Iran (currently, 10000 cases) was back on March 2nd. But, the USA may have confirmed cases inflating much faster than those since those places didn't have the ballsed-up testing issue.

To be fair, all Donald Trunp gives a shit about is numbers. (How this is fair I do not know)

He didn’t want the cruise ship to dock in San Francisco because it would inflate the Covid-19 case numbers in the US.

Because that matters.

It's a shame there's no God and magic doesn't work, because this would be an ideal time to pray that Donald John Trump really is exactly the kind of man he seems to be and really isn't letting the White House medical staff do real-time monitoring of all his vitals, pumping him full of precautionary antivirals, and generally anything that would stop the slow but steady buildup of pneumonia, weakening his lungs hour by hour, to approach that point where even medical science cannot intervene any longer...

He actually gave an update on this during the National Emergency announcement today. And I swear, I'm not making this up, it's actually what he said. Trump is going to get the test, but not because he shook hands with an infected person, and not because everyone is speculating that he might have gotten infected. He's going to get the test because he just feels like it.

Update on the friend and his dad, seems they are now able to communicate through a social worker.  They speak to them and then the social worker relays the message to the father or delivers any items.  Not sure how that's much better because delivering items still brings them into contact with the worker, who could get sick and infect everyone inside, but at least there is a solution now.  Apperantly the father was never told why they had stopped visiting everyday.

If the south hadn't fallen for the red scare tactics used against Bernie and voted for a racist old republican to be the Democratic nominee, then maybe this would be a period of awakening that could possibly lead to the US having proper public healthcare, services, and employment rights.

It still may be, but I do not trust Biden to do any better than Trump on facing the coronavirus. He's still Candidate No-M4A.
